Focus mk3 1.6 Diesel - 2 DTCs

Featured Replies

I recently changed out the wrong master cylinder for the correct one, it cleared around 8 DTCs I had related to the clutch sensors and I'm now left with 2.

P176E:93-2E - Clutch Pedal 'A' / Clutch Sensor Position Sensor Correlation  (Previously was P176E:93-2C)
P086B:29-2C - Neutral Position Sensor 'A' Range / Performance  (Previously was P086B:29-6C)

Too add to this, now my gear shift indicator is functioning (never did before) but 4th is telling me to shift to 4th and 6th is telling me to shift to 6th.
Any help appreciated.

Have a read of the following thread:

https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/136106-2015-fiesta-10-ecoboost-broken-down-twice-on-the-same-day-1-year-later/

From what you have said, it could well be damaged wiring which is difficult to find.

I think the car may have been fitted with the wrong gearbox, talking to a friend with same car and hes doing just over 2000rpm at 70 in 6th and I'm sat around 2500rpm. Possibly a petrol box version or maybe the ECOnetic.

It is indeed quite likely that the wrong gearbox is fitted. This is quite a common problem on a 1.6 TDCI because people wrongfully assume that all 1.6 TDCI 6-speed B6 gearboxes are identical while there are in fact several different gear ratio's.

A well known symptom of an incorrect gearbox is the cruise control (when equipped) not working at all or switching itself off because of the engine RPM / vehicle speed mismatch.

On the 1.6 TDCI gearbox failure is a common problem. The characteristics of the Diesel engine (high torque at low RPM's) in combination with the shift indicator that encourages the driver to drive in the highest possible gear causes the failure. The combination of high load/torque and low RPM's results in insufficient lubrication which causes the gearbox bearings and gears to wear prematurely.

This problem only persists on the 1.6 TDCI and especially the ECOnetic (because of the even longer gear ratio). None of the Petrol ECOboost versions that use the 6-speed B6 gearboxes suffer from this problem.

As far as I am aware the 6-speed B6 gearboxes of a Petrol ECOboost engine do not physically fit to the 1.6 TDCI. This means that if the gearbox is incorrect it must either be an incorrect 1.6 TDCI version or the original gearbox has been rebuilt with incorrect parts.

I don't have cruise control to test that unfortunately, I do however have the car telling me to shift into gears I am already in, I assume because of a mismatch between tyre speed and gear ratio. I know the ideal solution is to get the correct box fitted, but in the meantime it seems fucntional, I'm going to turn off the shift indicator with Forscan. I did see an option in Forscan to set the gearbox ratio is that worth changing?
