Hello new to this i have a 2009 focus zetec tdci having problems when driving it it sometimes comes up with engine malfunction all the warning lights come up and says reduced acceleration and power steering malfunction and beeps after a few minutes it goes away had a computer plugged in and there is no faults on it sometimes it will not let me start it at all any ideas what i could be? Have had a new battery and newish alternator fitted as well

If there are warnings then there are faults. The code reader you’ve used just can’t see them.

You need something that car read all the codes, generic and Ford specific on both high and medium speed can bus.

We usually recommend Forscan with a compatible adapter as that will show everything.

And read the codes whilst the warnings are on as switching off and on may clear some or all?

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

It has not

Your choice (if you want a newer one just tell us and we can stop making suggestions? 😉) but as said there must (surely) be some codes with all that going on and limp mode activated?
At that age, wiring faults become more likely IMHO requiring investigation by diagnostic specialist (no disrespect to your garage intended)
The relative cost of that time per hour may make your decision for you?

For the sake of £50 or so, it would be worth having that done.  The warnings you're getting are common with that, but without any codes I can't confirm for sure.

It sure would.

And for the sake of £34 it would be worth buying the vLinker FS lead so that the Ford specific DTC's could be read using FORScan.

High probability that it’s the cluster solder failing. Replacing solder in the cluster usually £100 approx. DTC (codes) need to be read with either Forcsan or the Ford system as most others will not read both can busses.

whacking the dash above the cluster when it happens can shock it back to life temporarily.

I did give it a whack and it does fix it for a while would the cluster stop it from starting now and again?

Will go get that done first and see if it fixes it

If you can't find anyone local, @rd457 offers a postal service for cluster repair.

And yes, the cluster does stop it starting if it loses the immobiliser connection.

It can also bring up the ‘power steering malfunction’ message, it did on my son’s 2008 ST.
