Coolant Leak

Featured Replies

Hi! My Mk2 S-Max has a coolant leak. Yay! Narrowed it down to the heater coolant loop I believe.

Drove the car for week without the heater on 🥶 and the coolant tank is holding fluid, unlike when it's on.

Think I can see some fluid down behind the engine block when I shine a torch through the gaps. The footwells are dry, so I'm hoping it's not the heating matrix.

Could anyone point me to any info on how all the heater hoses etc are connected and the best way to get them. The S-Max engine is sunk back a bit, so hoping I would be able to tackle this from the engine bay.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm not an expert so this is a bigger guess than usual...

I don't think there is a valve in the heating system water circuit therefore don't understand why having heater off makes a difference (all done on flaps - is it?)???

If it's not a serious leak, would radiator sealant fix it?

Which engine?

And do you have the additional fuel fired heater as there's lots of extra pipework for that.

Your guess is probably better than mine. Actually took a look at the coolant tank this morning and it seems the leak is still present, so you might be right about the 'flaps'. Definitely would like to see if it's a hose first rather than pour and pray with sealant. Appreciate the suggestion however.

It's a manual 2.0 TDCI. No idea if I have the additional fuel fired heater. Sorry I'm a total noob when it comes to this car.

Hi Guys. Just to update you. I've managed to get hold of a very comprehensive workshop manual for my specific vehicle. Will report back soon. Thanks for all your help.

Is it available for mere mortals, if so where? Thanks.

Hi, Just to give you an update. Turns out that the coolant pump was knackered. Being replaced now with a new belt. A job best left to the pros I think.

Thanks... And the comprehensive manual for mortals? (If possible please?)
