MK3 rear brake piston tool

Featured Replies

Hi

I have the 2014 tdci model disk brakes on rear. trying to change these but having trouble with the tool to retract the piston, borrowed a friends BGS technic kit 1104 but it does not fit my car properly, sort of fits but pins not sitting properly in holes. Does this piston wind in left or right hand and should there be much force required to wind it in ? Any reason why it would not wind in ? any help appreciated.

Also where is the fuel filter on the engine in this car ?

Many thanks

You can buy a kit on evilbay for about £12 to do that job, comes with the correct size adaptors to fit.Oh and the tool is sided, make sure your using the correct one.

The rear pistons seize up easily.  I had to add extra leverage to the windback tool and still had to put a load of force through it for one of mine.  In hindsight I should have replaced that caliper as well as the one that was totally knackered.

Fuel filter on 1.6 TDCI is at the back corner of the engine, next to the battery.

Sorry no. Pick one that fits out of the kit. I have no measurments https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/396100268481

Just a little tip for @Delboy777 (and others) when posting links like the one above for eBay, you only need to post the info up to the first '?' in the link. All the stuff that comes after that is tracking information about you, and how you searched, and where you searched from. Just sites collecting data about you.

Check out the link above and you'll find that it works the same but without details about my browsing and searching info.

Everyday is a school day. Thanks for that @unofix

Thanks ordered the kit. So hw much pressure do I use, if they are seized how much of a job is it to get the piston freed

On a new calliper it'll be virtually no pressure at all.  I had to use two 17/19mm ring spanners hooked over each arm of that tool for more leverage plus all of the strength I've got to rotate mine.  It never did free up but doesn't affect braking as it's not the piston that's seized, just the screw mechanism for resetting the handbrake compensator ratchet.

I used a pair of snipe nosed pliers to turn them on my 2019/20. Not a problem. The tool that I bought didn't fit...

You don't need to turn them on that car, they just push straight back.

Wrong! They are used to operate the electronic parking brake.

You're talking complete nonsense, you put the Electronic Parking Brake  into Maintenance Mode electronically and the Pistons just push back without winding them.

Wrong again!

You can laugh all you like, but I have changed all four wheel's pads and disks on my car and the rear calipers had to be wound in to refit the pads. They wouldn't have had the indents for the tool if they didn't need it. The electronic actuators rotate the rear pistons to put the parking brake on. I first put the parking brake into maint mode to prevent any incidents, of course. Trolling is not funny.

For anyone who is now confused about the Rear Pad replacement for a MK4 Focus, here is an extract from the official Ford Workshop Manual, maybe Ford are wrong🤣

Just because you chose to rotate it doesnt mean that it HAS to be rotated. All you were doing was pushing the cylinder back by ***** the tool using the threads. Think about it, I doubt that Ford are wrong !

Thanks for this pistons easily wound in with the right tool.

With regard to fuel filter written separate thread about fuel issues I'm having. Would fuel filter cause low mpg ?

Not usually.  Unless it's leaking out of the water drain.  But you should see & smell that if it was.
