P3402 - Cylinder 1 Deactivation/Intake Valve Control Circuit

Featured Replies

Does anyone knows what this issue can be on my Ford Focus 1.0 125hp 2018?
Check engine light started this week so i checked dtc with forscan that gave me these results.
I tried resetting it and it was good for 2 days and then check engine light came back up and the error came back too in forscan.

The only thing that was done 2 weeks ago:
Oil + filter and spark plugs were replaced by dealer.

Is there anything i can do?

It could be Oil related but if the Spark Plugs were changed then the Wiring to the Deactivation Solenoid may have been damaged or dislodged in the process.

It should be on the top of the Cylinder Head.

Thanks. This is a picture. Is the wiring to the deactivation solenoid visible?

It will be but I can't remember exactly where it is other than directly above Cylinder 1. There will also be Camshaft Sensors and Solenoids but they will be in pairs and to either side of centre. You need to lift the cover off obviously and give all the Connectors a wiggle to see if they are loose.

FORScan should have a few PID's that you can live Monitor that might throw some more light on the matter. My guess is the Wiring but it could be something mechanical as well.

Hi Ronald,

If you remove the engine cover you should be able to see the solenoid and its wiring. Careful, it can be very hot under that cover)

Run in Sport mode, cylinder deactivation is deactivated

If the issue still occurs in sport mode, does it still show that the valve control or magnet is broken?
