Sync 3

Featured Replies

Ffs, I've been sitting here for an hour now updating my software. Getting fed up with having to run the engine. I'm using a properly formated 128gb Kingston pen. What do i do ?

It can take up to 2 hours. Of course it doesn't have to all be done in one go. When I updated mine, I just put the USB in, and leave it there sometimes for a week or more. Eventually on one of my outings it will put up the message to say it's finished.

I gave it an hour and a half and gave up. I dont like the car idling for all that time. So i did a master reset and left it at that. I dont think i will bother doing anymore as im fed up with the whole thing. Why are ford saying 20 - 30 minutes knowing full well that that is nonsense ? Had i known that it would take so long i would just stuck my charger on to it and left it to do its thing, but then i suppose it wont work if ign is off. Stupid system AFAIC.

Did it actually start?

Yes it did Dave, as per the ford site it said what would happen. On th top bar of the screen it said, updating software..... Then an hour and a half later still the same, no indicator on screen of any progress. Tried a "soft re-boot" didnt work, in the end i just said f*** it im not waiting any longer. I didnt know if it was doing anything despite the message, id no idea. So i gave up on it, wasnt having the car idle any longer. Wasnt sure if i could drive while it was supposed to be updating or not, some say yes, others say no, on the internet that is. So i reset it back to factory and left it at that.

A Map of around 22 GB update will take about 2 hours, a Sync update is much shorter and normally takes about half an hour and you can drive while they are taking place and as @unofix said they don't need to be done in one go.

I also would not let an Engine Idle for 2 hours, it is not good for an Engine.

When I updated the maps last week I drove the car as usual, when I stopped and then started againg it carried on therefore it does not have to run continuous

Maps I presume?

Maps takes forever, plan a long drive

Don't do any reboots whilst updating, you could've bricked the module

It will have started again now

There is something wrong in that case as you already know.

I've had my car since new and a Sync update has never taken more than half an hour, and you can't update the maps until the Sync has been updated.

Im just going to leave it as it is. Dont use the nav anyway and as long as my phone connects and the DAB radio works, then thats fine with me. Next owner can fix it after im in boot hill lol. Incidentally, i was using a properly formated (exfat) Kingston Data traveler G3 128gb pen. It had several movies on it in the past so i know it works.

I'm sure you're not the only one, Derek. I never bothered trying to update the original Sync 3 in my previous Fiesta. As long as Mrs B can get Ken Bruce's "Popmaster" on Greatest Hits Radio we're fine!
