Engine malfunction

Featured Replies

Hi I need some help, my ford focus dash cane up with engine malfunction and acceleration reduced, I've had a diagnostic test and no fault was found, it does this once or twice a week, any help much appreciated thanks

Welcome!
My first comment would be If the diagnostic test was done when the alerts were not present than no codes may have been found.

Switching off and on may clear the codes.
The codes need to be read when the fault is on.

As it is happening regularly it looks like it occurs under specific conditions that could be determined and replicated otherwise take it to have the codes read when it is on and don't switch off?
OR if you feel confident get Forscan - free software, a lead and read them yourself. Just ask if further info on that needed.

No, waste of time and money. Download FORScan and just follow the instructions. There are dozens of videos on utube that explain how. Then buy yourself a vLINKER cable for FORScan and have the use of a Windows laptop, and away you go. If your not tech savvy, like me get someone to do it for you. All it costs is the price of the cable. Make sure its the vLinker one. £20 - £30 on Amazon. Or any reputable diag company.

Thankyou  will give it a go

This sounds very much like the infamous dry solder problem on the back of the instrument cluster. Do the problems change if you thump the top of the dashboard with your hand ?     @rd457

FORScan details below:

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

OR

you didn't post what engine you have

ideally make, model, engine type, gearbox type, year, mileage, service history

if its a petrol mk2 might be a coil pack

Thought it probably would be the instrument cluster.

Less than £85 to repair usually and @rd457 turns them round in a couple of days normally.
