Ford S-max 2009 - Instrumentpanel / module overheating?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I drive an s-max 2009 and occasionally have some problems with the instrument panel. It can happen while having the car stationary for too long with engine on or sometimes randomly while driving.

I have assumed it to being related to heat and while it happens the intrument panel "glitches" with all types of error messages popping up on the screen, the AC and radio turns on and off. The beeping engine fault noise drives me nuts, sounding at random with all the error messages.

What it seems to also effect is the lock-system for the car aswell as the electric windows. The central lock can stop working and I have to lock the car by hand. The sidemirrors can fail to fold in or out while locking/unlocking.

During the summer if I am parked in the sun for too long the instrument panel is completely dead, all black and no instruments working, aswell as the AC and radio. If I let the car cool down (in shadow or garage), I assume something resets while being turned off for a while, it goes back to work as normal again after about 1-2 hours.

Everything else besides the faults/errors seems to function normally when it happens. I can drive and on the outside everything seems fine.

The outside temp meter is always off with a few warmer degrees and I have often noticed a big incline in the degrees before the errors start to pop up on the IP.

First error messages usually is the handbrake flashing or the airbag warning light turning on.

I have had the car checked with computer for error codes (not at a ford workshop), after and during the problem occuring with both the IP lights and errors flashing and during the summer with the IP completely dead/black. Have not found any codes related to the problem i have.

During the winter with colder temps outside, I have not had the problem happening much, but during the recent weekend we had around +10C outside and it started again. Had been driving for a few hours and the stood stationary with engine on for maybe 10-15 minutes, then while driving again the lights and engine fault noise started beeping for maybe 30 mins. I continued driving all during the errors and i assume the wind from driving cooled the engine/module/whatever is causing it down.

Any ideas of what is overheating? Anyone with similar problems before?

I added a small gif with the IP and errors occuring from 2 days ago. I am driving in the city at around 40-50km/h not touching any buttons or settings. Notice the outside temp is at +20C, it should probably be around +7 if it was accurate. In the video you can hear the engine fault beeping at random aswell.

Thanks in advance for any responses.
