Focus Mk4 2.0L Ecoblue DPF recall

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has already been covered and I missed it!

I just got a recall letter from Ford to get my DPF inspected and software updated, it seems there have been problems with the DPF having micro cracks which cause leaks and can fail MOT.  From what I understand they started recalling Kugas with this engine last year in Germany and moving onto other models in other countries this year.  The letter also references the 1.5 Eco blue engine with further recalls to follow.  Anyone else got this recall letter or know anything about it?  I guess I will have to book it in.  In the meantime they have extended the warranty for DPF related issues to 10 years and 100,000 miles while waiting for an appointment.

I'm impressed that Ford had my details on their database as I bought my car second hand in Germany and imported it into France myself, but sure enough I got a letter from Ford France, so something seems to be working behind the scenes.

I will be hoping for a letter myself here in the UK as I have the 1.5 Ecoblue and I have been having a few issues with the DPF since I got the car last August.

Might even contact Ford to see if there is anything pending.

Did you ever contact ford regarding this? I did have a brief call with them, and they weren't sure what I was talking about. So just wanted to see if this has only happened to me.

Also my DPF has been mapped out and somewhat gutted (by previous owner, not me). Will they still honour the recall in this case? Bit worried they won't. Would love to have some light shed on this.

Thank you.

I received a similar letter this morning warning me that the DPF could develop cracks due to faulty software.  The letter advised me to wait until I was contacted by Ford to arrange the necessary software update, and also DPF inspection in case of damage already incurred.

Just to update this, as their are over 750,000 vehicles affected by this recall, the letter also states that Focus owners have been scheduled for mid-to-late 2025 for the inspection/update.

Hi

I've got the same notice for mine in April which is a 1.5 diesel 2017. I want to know what the remap does to improve the life of the dpf.

Paul

No idea what actually causes the problem, or how a software update solves the issue.  But at least the DPF will be inspected for cracks and replaced FOC if already damaged.

Completely forgot about this post.

I haven't received anything yet about a recall or inspection of the DPF.

Mine is pinging that the DPF is constantly overloaded and needs to be driven to be cleaned, even after it has already been on a long drive (midlands to Southampton return journey in one day).

So I am hoping that something will get inspected soon, or I at least hear about something regarding an inspection.

Anyone had this recall done yet - I haven't gotten around to it but probably should at some point but would be good to know if it changes anything (I remember when they recalled the VWs after the diesel scandal people claimed it ruined the way the cars drove).  I have had no issues with mine until now, except that distance between ad blue top ups has progressively reduced from about 7,000 miles down to 4,000 miles.  Not a problem in itself but maybe a symptom of something else going on?

Yes had my recall completed in September, the car is much faster and I get an extra 5 mpg 🎉🎉🎉

Actually I did get it done in September and it's made zero difference in any way.

Extra speed or fuel economy would be nice but I was more worried that it would suddenly drive like a bag of nails!

Out of interest how many miles do you get between ad blue top ups and has it been consistent since you got the car?

About 6000 miles, maybe a little more. I've had the car 5 years and it's never changed. When it gets down to 700miles left I always manage to cram in a full 10 litre container.

Thanks.  I only put in about 8 or 8.5 ltr at a time which is the max amount that comes up on the screen when I reach 500 miles about remaining, that might account for some of the lower mileage between fills.

Back again as I’ve seen this pop up since last year.

I’ve received nothing from Ford regarding a recall. Is there anyone with the 1.5 engine that’s had a letter and a recall? Mines a 2021 plate so maybe it’s too new?

I'm still getting DPF warnings on my car, even after using only “premium” fuels (ie not supermarket fuel) as well as Archoil every full tank. This morning I got the red warning pop up on the way to work, so that will be another static regen when I get home.

I noticed that the warranty was extended to 10 years, so is it worth trying to go that route to get it looked at? I’ve checked the VIN on Fords website and it says there are no recalls showing.

I'm hoping something happens soon as I’m seriously considering chopping this in and getting something else as there is clearly something wrong. I’ve only ever driven diesels and this is the only one I’ve had constant issues since getting the car.

I think the 10 year extended warranty is only if you fail the MOT due to cracked DPF, not necessarily just because it fills with ash and needs a regen.

Maybe I'm lucky, maybe my driving habits and style is better suited to diesels (lots of long motorway journeys, not many short ones), maybe this one is not a dud but I haven't had any issues so far (fingers crossed). I finally got the recall work done a couple of weeks ago, just the software update and everything drives exactly the same as before. We'll have to see if that lasts on the longer term.

Ironically I’ve booked mine in at a local DPF specialist next Monday to get the back pressure sensor replaced as it seems to be giving odd readings.

I had several long journeys last week after running a static regen and it flagged up a clogged filter only 3 days later with no way it could have been clogged after that short amount of time. Hopefully this solves my issues.
