Electrical issues after flat battery.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm after some advice regarding my 2011 Mondeo 2.2 TXS estate. Basically, I haven't used it for a few months, so the battery died. Upon fitting a brand new battery (the old one wouldn't hold a charge), these are my symptoms: blower not working on any speed setting, horn not working, front and rear wipers not working, and the heated seats are not working. Prior to the battery dying, all this was working fine. I've checked the fuses; all seem fine. I've also checked that the relays are getting power; however, the relays are not clicking when I try to use the items that work via relay. I've done the battery reset (rear fog five times and hazards three times), still nothing. Hopefully, someone has some ideas. Many thanks!

Initially, and purely speculation, carry out an easy check on the BCM by removing and replacing plugs, checking for corrosion due to water ingress from failed washer pump.

Get that out of the way first?

Attached pic is good condition. It's the 4 larger pins that  are the source (yours may differ in design or otherwise)

Yes I'd expect that these problems are caused by water ingress to the BCM as @Shearers has already said.

All of the faults you report are controlled by the Body Control Module and they are know to suffer with water and corrosion problems on your model.

Thank you both. I removed all plugs and checked for corrosion/dampness, and I can't see anything indicating water ingress. Apart from these few things not working, all other aspects of the car are working perfectly. Thanks again for your help.

I've attached a photo of 1 of the plugs I removed all others were the same condition.

Good to have done that.

Then perhaps need to check for any fault codes, wiring or switching issues and I'll have to defer to others but it may still be a BCM issue but needs concrete diagnosis before looking into that rather expensive replacement  - not to be done unless you are certain!

If you look closely at the connector in your photo you will see the signs of water ingress and corrosion.

Watch at 6:40 to see the connector.

Yes, well spotted, that close inspection does show a possible issue so what does the socket look like, can the connection be cleaned or has it spread inside the BCM (which would likely cause problems)?

Need to replace pump, isolate the problem by cutting and rejoining wires close to pump (by using after market pump or definitely preventing further fluid penetrating the cables?)

Then the BCM problem (if present) will have to be tackled...

Very well spotted. Upon further investigation, it looks very badly corroded! I was praying it wasn't going to be this, as my faults aren't intermittent, but when it comes to corrosion, I suppose anything can happen! Thanks again; I'll update when I get a replacement.

Just to update, I received my BCM back, plugged it in, and I'm happy to say all is well again! Thanks for all the help, and hopefully, if anyone is experiencing similar issues as I did, they can come across this. Again, thanks 😊
