Outstanding Recall - 1.5 TDCI Mk3.5

Featured Replies

Car passed its MOT few weeks ago without major issue. The MOT website showed no outstanding recall at the time it passed.

Few weeks later the MOT website is now showing my car has an outstanding recall. I checked with a dealership and was told that the recall was related to DPF. I was not urged to bring the car back. Haven't yet decided if I should nevertheless book in with a dealer to get that sorted.

Anyone has recent experience what the exact issue is about? Would it be a software patch or part replacement? Thanks!

Id like to know too, because having looked it up on Gov website, it appears my one is subject to a recall too. Ford wrote to me last time, and it had an airbag replaced but that was years ago. Not sure if i should wait or ask local stealer to arrange to have it done whatever it is.

Outstanding Field Service Actions

24N13  - X-CAR EU ST.6 MOT PARTICULATE TEST

This FSA is for the DPF, there have been a large number cracking and allowing excess particulates to pass through.  As far as I can tell, the tailpipe emissions will be checked, and if found to be too high, the DPF will be replaced for free.

Im only the second owner, ive had it since it was 10 months old when it had covered 2880 miles. It was registered to Ford themselves, it was a managers car apparently. I bought it from Ford of Liverpool for less than 15k. Due to me having a works van, my own btw, i was self employed excavator op. Car was a driveway princess and hardly ever used. I bought it with the intension of it being my last car, and it will indeed be that.

Ford will write to the registered keeper in time and alert you to the recall. When you have the letter in hand, then the dealer HAS to do the recall he has no choice. Ford will be paying them, so no reason for them to refuse !

Customers won't get letters as it's a recall that's actioned  only if the car fails MOT Emissions.

Oh well, i suppose you have to run about without an MOT if it fails,  until they can be bothered to contact you about it. Well done Ford

I think I will wait a bit too, coz the car has recently passed MOT. I probably will get a dealer to sort it out before next MOT. otherwise an MOT advisory item may pop up next year I believe. I stand to be corrected.

I've just had this appear on my 2015 Mk3.5 1.5TDCI, I'm pretty sure this was not there a few weeks ago when I last checked. The checker does not give any details and the spreadsheet doesn't list anything new. Perhaps a new recall is around?

The cracked DPF warning is this only for 2018 built cars?  I had suspected a cracked DPF before due to smoke under acceleration and sometimes a bit on startup in the winter, although both appear to be resolved since using Wynns additive I was under the impression DPF's should never emit smoke unless regenerating.

Edit: Researching online it looks like other year cars also face cracked DPFs. Mad that Ford require a MOT failure first??

Reading this thread I thought Id check mine.

On the gov site with the reg search it says there is a recall but on the ford uk recall site with the vin search it's says there is no recalls.

Yeah, same here, Ford checkers do not list any recalls but GOV site does, but not in their main spreadsheet.

I think it's because they realised the DPF cracking issue is more widespread.

What's great is apparently they only cover up to 10 years, wonderful that they expand this recall after the 10 year extended DPF warranty period is up due to this same issue.

It seems to be related to recall 24E06.

I never got a letter at all, and Ford tell me just to ask a local dealer, so I did and apparently there is a PCM update required (which is part of the fix for 24E06, apart from a DPF check / replacement).

I guess it's about right for Ford as a Ford dealership sold us a Focus with an outstanding recall for the cambelt pulley, despite it sitting at that dealership for months, I only found out because I took the time to check on ETIS which has now been removed from public access.

Now the question is, with the dieselgate emissions testing still going on, what will this PCM update effect reliability and MPG wise??? VW owners were very unhappy with their updated cars.

My 2018 Focus has just failed the MOT on emissions  so not allowed to drive it home . I had the recall letter.
if I were you I’d get Ford to check your emissions.

Said who ?

Did they get a court order to impound the vehicle ?

When does the previous MOT expire ?

A very nice 2017 model took my eye but then I found out about the recall, I rang a ford dealer and they said the recall only becomes active if the car fails its MOT on this item, and knowing that its only valid for 10 years, knowing my luck it would only fail in 2027, so I didnt buy it.

  • 4 weeks later...

I noticed there was a recall on the Gov website today so I called Ford.

There are 2 recalls, one is the DPF one which I was told they will only do if it fails the MOT on emissions. The Ford reference for this is 24N13. Seems odd that if there is a potential for a failure that they don't just replace the offending part.

The other is a software update which I have booked in for.
