Am i unlucky or is it common

Featured Replies

Since purchasing my car in late october / early november had many issues , it’s a ford fiesta zetec 64 plate (idk much about cars so my info might be slightly off) As i said i bought the car in late october / early november for roughly 3.5-4 grand i forget (was influenced by my dad saying it was a good price and car looked good etc), it was used fairly frequently but not daily as i hadn’t passed my test and my dad just used it to keep giving it runs so it didnt die by sitting , after passing my test the day i past i got to the top of a steep busy junction and stalled as a new solo driver does the car then wouldn’t start a push down the hill and a jump start and a trip to the garage later i was £300 down new battery couple of other minor issues etc etc fast forward a while i notice an engine light no bother we’ll take it to the garage change spark plugs and a couple other pieces was a couple of more hundred quid down i then got an engine light not too long after that took to garage they so called fixed it charge me 200 and then 3 days later it was back took it to my dads friend who obd scanned it engine misfire , garage quoted me 1k minimum took it to my dads friend instead as a home fixer her fixed it up added water pump or something along those lines idek i just pay for the stuff, then needed to fix its breaks for 450 ish and then do it’s Mot and it failed and doesn’t look good for the future , Please see photos attached for price break down and MOT , all in all i’m about 7 grand down for a 2014 zetec is this started or am i unlucky , should i keep it or should i quit before i spend even more on it. Bare in mind this is within a 4 month period of me passing my test and using this car close to daily , it also has the worst mpg known to man a full tank costing me £50 gets me around 250-300 miles of normal motorway driving and i don’t rag it and also have a blackbox

£450 for brakes (not breaks) is taking the yellow stuff

Front discs and pads on a Fiesta should cost about £100 and rear drums last until the end of time plus one day, normally

£200 for new spark plugs extracts a hell of a lot more

A battery should be no more than £70

Get a new mechanic or move the car on.

Take better advice and don't let the DIY man near it again

Especially if its a 1.0 Ecoboost because the next thing is you'll have the belts go bang.

For the £4000 you've spent on it so far you could of had a new engine, gearbox, clutch, suspension and brakes.

And a battery!

Only buy from a reputable dealer, with warranty

Have you considered financing a brand new car?  Will be considerably cheaper than your current monthly outgoings and they'll fix it for free for the first 3 years.

If it's not a Ford they might not have to!😀

I'm glad you said that, not me!

On a slightly more serious note, a used Toyota might not be a bad idea either.  They're still extending the warranty to 10 years when serviced at Toyota dealerships.

VW have also got thier 'all-in-one' service, breakdown & warranty plans on offer right now for older cars, as they seem to every April.

Tongue in cheek, of course! But yes, that Toyota scheme seems a good one from what I've seen.

Honestly i believe once it’s been fixed and MOT done it should be fully functional as there physically cannot be much more that can be done to it

You haven't mentioned if the wet belts have been done? If not, that's another big expense.

Ever the optimist 😀

A 2014 EcoBoom 1.0 will be due a new engine later this year.

He can do the clutch the same time he fits the new engine, that'll save a few ££££'s 🤣

after reading the comments i might try sell it while it runs it’s also a 1.25 zetec and not a 1.0 ecoboom
