How to adjust hand / rear brake cables? S-Max 2008 2,0 TDCI

Featured Replies

As far as I know, the rear brake cables can be adjusted underneath the car, hidden behind the heat shield. To unscrew the heat shield, there are uncommon bolts to unscrew. How do I unscrew them?

On the 2nd picture the heatshiele ist broken. Hier can I fix it?

So just pull both out of the stud? I tried to turn both but it doesnt move in any direction..

I believe you need to turn it (release fluid/WD40 first?)

I have replaced or used Aluminium strip with a drilled hole and screwed it into to the stud on the bodywork.

Ok on another forum somebody told me just to use a 24mm or 26 mm nut and turn it. Will going to try this next days.

That or spanner or grips should do it.

Looks like you will need to add some Aluminium sheet or similar to extend the area round the nut due to corrosion of the heat shield.

yes I tried it with both but it didnt move.. as soon as I have spare time I will go for it with the 24 / 26mm nut. If it still want to move I will just destroy them and use Aluminium sheet or something like that as you recommend. The brake cables are little bit to short so both rear brakes were blocking softly.

I think it was a 26mm nut, fits perfectly to unscrew it without problems.
