Dashcam.

Featured Replies

Recommend me a dashcam that works please ! Not a POS Next bin. Ive had 2 and they are junk. Want F/R camera that have a good picture 4k if possible on the front one 1080 will do for rear. But something that doesnt make you sick when you throw it in the bin ! Obviously im Scottish so must be cheap as f**k ! lol.

sorry I'm no expert, but I'm looking myself at the Road Angel .. but have to doing some research. I'm told that because I have a front heated windscreen they don't work? so I phone ford UK and as usual, they were as much use as a chocolate fire guard. So I decide to phone Road Angel and they were really, really helpful and acknowledged that the early visions would not work, but their latest one the guy said he his 99% that it should work. If not they have a guarantee policy that you can return it, whether you've tried it or not for a full refund

Just bought and fitted this dashcam to my Ranger.  £59.98

Camera very good, instructions are misleading.

Shop Smart, Save Money tested a Garmin on yesterdays programme.  Front & rear both work from one single unit.  Its magnet mounted so easy to remove if necessary.  Connects to a phone app using wifi.  And it's voice controlled.  (Although it struggled with an American accent, so may not understand Scottish either lol).

It wasn't cheap though.  I also had a couple of cheap ones that were crap, so it probably is worth spending a bit extra for these.

Did you buy a hard wired kit ? Or u just plugging it into 12v socket and having wire hanging about.

Neither 🤣

The problem (which was easy to over come) is that you need to use the power lead that comes with the camera, because about 300mm from the camera end of the cable is the aerial for the GPS. So unlike what the description implies the GPS aerial is not built in to the actual camera.

Since I did want to actually hard wire the dashcam in and not just plug it in, my solution was to simply solder two wires directly on to the cigar plug power supply and then wrap the plug with black electricians tape. I then hid the plug up behind the dashboard. One wire was then fastened to a good earth point and the other wire was connected to the fuse tap and plugged in to an ignition controlled fuse.

The camera is very good and so is the video quality. They "claim" that you can buy a special 'hardwire' kit from them, but you have to write and ask them to order it. I personally doubt such a kit exists or that if it does it will be a standard one and that you would then lose the GPS function. Hence my own method of adapting the lead.

I had a look on their site, and couldnt even find this camera, never mind a hard wire kit !

Im tending towards the Road Angel Halo Pro which can be had for £169.99, but the hardwire kit is an extorsionate £24.99 !

So for just under £200, I hope it installs itself 😂

I'll stick with my £59 dashcam even if the instructions were rubbish 🤣

Well, my problem is ive tried the cheapo type and they were quite frankly rubbish and didnt last very long. Then i thought id try a "better quality" Nextbase and it is the biggest pile of poo that ive ever had, its already been changed and its lasted a few months and has gone haywire ! So my question is wht do i do ? Either option seems like a waste of money tbh. Unless i spend 100s on a "top of the range" model that will in all likelyhood be as bad as the rest !

Like Tom, I like Garmin.  I use the Mini in the cars for cameras, and have been using their GPS since the GPSII+

Not particularly cheap, but they are reliable.

Sorry to hear of your problems with Nextbase Derek. I have had one for about eight years now, both front and rear. During that time I have had no problems at all. I have also moved them to three different cars over that time.

Paid £170 on a deal from Halfrauds and had to get it changed after only 3 weeks ! The SD card supplied with it is utter crap and the thing kept freezing up. New head unit authorised by Nextbase and the supplied SD card did the same in it too, so concluded it was cr^p, fitted my own SD card and it works fine, no freezing. Had it wired uo permanant live and it was fine but if i forgot to switch it off at the head unit after about 20 mins it would freeze up every time. Now to try and avoid that, i wired it up switched live so it would come on and off with ign. Next problem was the internal battery would discharge overnight and when switched on when i started car it would go loopy, literaly clicking high speed  like a demented machine gun then would switch on and off itself ! Had enough now. time for the bin i think BTW its not much more than a year old ! What a pile of poo, never again will i waste my dosh on NEXTBASE RUBBISH !!
