Fuel injector problem

Featured Replies

Afternoon all. Hope someone can help with my issue.

I have an 09 fiesta with a misfire. After testing almost everything I think I've narrowed it down to possibly being the fuel injector. My next step is to test the injector for cylinder 1 but I'm stumped on how to pull the connector plug off in order to test with a multimeter.

All 4 connectors are on the same "rail" so I'm guessing i would have to remove the whole thing in order to be able to access with the multimeter..  also the connector for the 1 i want to check seems to have some play in it. The other 3 are pretty well seated with very little movement. Hence why I need to check number 1. Picture attached to show what I mean. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks

The o-ring has probably worn out if you can feel play in the injector.  You do need to remove the whole rail for access.

Thanks for your reply.. the injector itself doesn't have play but the connector to the injector moves a little to freely like it isn't sitting properly.. not sure how to remove the connector though, thanks

Ah ok.  There's a small spring clip on the rail plug for each injector, that could be weak or missing.  For the ones were it is still intact, you need to press it in to release them.

Ah I see, thanks, I'll get onto that today, just wanted to double check what this pipe was, it needs to be removed for me to take out the connector, does it just pull off?

Yes it just pulls off.  It mainly carries air but there will probably be a bit of oil residue in it so have a bit of tissue ready just in case.
