Hi all do my cluster dash clocks need changing??

Featured Replies

Im on low restricted income - Ok so randomly all dash lights came on when in motion no power - Engine malfunction msg

Breakdown Diagnostic stated Immobiliser ID error, cleared codes all fine started - similar thing happened today but now saying Acceleration / Power steering aswell as engine malfunction (added pics)

Will start back up after codes erased - Mechanic said almost defo clocks need soldering common fault but diagnostics plus repair looking at £300 - my garage diagnostic came up with several faults they said that's usually caused by faulty clocks

They cant book me in till Wednesday was thinking of seeing if a mobile mechanic could be cheaper its so expensive for a 2008 focus diesel and I dont want to get butchered by a dodgy mobile mechanic

Photos added are of my cheap diagnostic machine

Thanks all

I don't want to send them off that's the problem

Why ever not ? Almost all of these type of repairs are done by sending them away. @rd457 usually turns them around in two days.

I presume that if you had problems with the electrics in your house you would not call a plumber. Therefore you need a good Hi-Tec auto-electrician, not a mobile mechanic.

The repair needs to be done professionally if it is to last and be trouble free. The old lead free solder has to be removed and the tracks and pins cleaned before being resoldered with 60/40 lead tin solder.

I'm a total numpty, yet I managed to undo the 2 x screws holding the cluster in, and to unplug the one single multi plug of an electrical connection. Read the post I copied above, complete with 'how to' video. Look, if you're rolling in money, you do what you want, I'm not, total repair cost me £70 and my car hasn't missed a beat since...

What I'm trying to see is if there's a local mobile mechanic who does it that way they can bring it to me make sure it fits and everything's working ☺️

Ps - if I don't bother with the diagnostic that takes off about 60 pound - I've had the car 10 years makes sense just do not bother with the diagnostic but I'm in panic mode this only happened today

There is nothing to 'fit', look, it took me a while to pluck the courage up to remove the cluster. It's a scary thing to do if you're not use to working on your own car, but like I said, it's held on by 2 x screws. It's highly unlikely that a local 'mechanic' will have the skills to offer such a professional repair to what in reality is the brain of your car. Spend a bit on YouTube showing how to remove a Mk2 instrument cluster, it's the most manly repair I have ever undertaken 😂

My own cluster removed for repair...

Here's a link to my service: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314393033915

The symptoms and codes you describe are very common ones for the instrument cluster fault I repair. Your cluster is the one I repair by far the most. As you can see from the sales of my listing, I've done quite a lot of them.

Step 1 under 'what to do' in my listing description gives you a link to a youtube video and what bit of it to watch to see how to take out your cluster. You'll need a T25 screwdriver. It's really very simple. But by all means get a garage or mobile mechanic to remove and refit it for you if you wish (though your vehicle will be stuck there until it arrives back).

Again, read the 1st post I copied. There is an Ebay link to the FOC member who carries out these repairs. You can message him with any questions, and read the positive feedback he gets for his service...

Just wanted to say a thank you to all involved I did use the eBay chap from here and it was a rapid service and saved me a small fortune cars mint again - something tells me it's been failing for some time because the car seems to be running better in general so it makes sense to get the cluster done even when it's not faulty as it may stop mini problems before the big problem arrives

Hi all, started 2day, when I accelerate I can INTERMITTENTLY hear a hissing air noise appears to be coming from gas pedal

Has felt abit sluggish on pulling away as well, revved it hard when stationary & can hear similar noise EVERYTIME but coming from passenger side engine bay where I believe MAF etc is

Going to get checked 2mw just worried driving in the meantime - if anyone's reading who helped me with my cluster repair recently thank you car has been great & saved me a mint than going to local garage 👍🙏
