Lost power to rear door, child lock engaged

Featured Replies

After coming back from holiday, we were unable to open the rear passenger door. We have the child lock engaged for our 6 year old, who also let us know that the electric window is not working either.

It seems that there is a wiring issue somewhere causing power loss to the door, however with the child lock on, the door is unable to be opened.

We have removed the door card, but cannot see if there is a way to manually override the child lock from inside to enable us to open the door.

(The mechanic we took it to wants £400 to brute force and replace the latch so hoping there will be another way!)

You have already done the hard part if you have managed to get the internal door card off. You need either an auto-electrician who should be able to access the door lock and power it directly to open it. Or you need a vehicle locksmith who will be able to turn the child lock off from inside of the door. What you do not need is a mechanic with a big hammer.

If you were nearer I'd open it for you.

If it's still double locked you still won't be able to open it, child lock on or off.

You will need to remove the cover from the latch and move the relevant lever to unlock the door and open it from the outside.

The best advice would be to find the electrical fault and fix it, everything will start working then
