What exterior paint do I need...?

Featured Replies

Hi Gang,

I'm looking to touch up a few scratches on my Ford Fiesta, but I haven't a clue what paint I need.

The car is white, but I know there are many different variants and I want to purchase the correct match.

Please see the attached door tag.

Also... the scratches are mostly on the plastic bumpers through to the black plastic underneath. Do I need to add a primer before touching it up.

Many thanks for your help.

It's called Frozen White.  Code HC.

You're unlikely to get a perfect match though, touch up paint is really for stone chips rather than large scratches.  You can use primer & lacquer in addition to the colour coat, but it's probably not necessary for white.

Thanks Tom.

I don't suppose you can recommend any specific paint...?

I'm not.sure I fancy having a go with one of those Tipex type touch up things.

I've tried a few types on scratches and only ever made them look worse.  I just leave them now.

Might be worth asking Chipsaway or similar for a quote to have it done professionally.

I've done the smallest of chips with a touch up brush and got a reasonable result, anything bigger just looks a mess as already said.

Scratches on plastic bumpers tend to score the plastic as well as the paint, so an element of filling is usually necessary.

I've had very good repairs done on larger areas by both my local Chips Away** franchise and normal body shop.

All comes down to how big an area, how old the car is, how much you're prepared to spend, how much it bugs you, etc, etc. At least there's no imperative to do anything as a scratch on a plastic area won't rust and spread, unlike a painted metal panel.

(**They seem to vary so look for local customer reports/recommendations. You can normally just zap them pics from your phone and get an estimate quickly.)
