Fiesta Coolent leak Help!!

Featured Replies

Car: Ford Fiesta 2014 Eco Boost 1.0 petrol

Hi guys hope your all well,

My 2014 Ford Fiesta seems to be leaking coolant (please see pictures)

I purchased this car 6 months ago and the previous owner told me the timing belt and water pump have been changed. Not sure if I should trust him on that.

The coolant seems to be leaking from that black circle thing (please see pictures)

My question is by looking at the pictures should I just go ahead and change the full water pump?  Or by looking at the leak is this somthing else?

Thanks in advance!

If it really had been changed I'm sure he would have made a big thing of it, and would have shown you an invoice for £1500 and complained about how much it had cost.

There is no easy or cheap way to find out if it has been done.  My gut feeling looking at the photos of the engine is that it doesn't look like an engine that has recently undergone major surgery.

The black thing is the short block thermostat and it'll be good if the leak is from that as it is a relatively cheap and easy repair. Better than it being either the pump or, worse still, the o-ring seal in the timing cover that can become misshapen if exposed to engine oil.

I am curious as to how easily your thermostat is visible in the photos though, or have you removed some pipework to gain access?

My money is on it being the non-turbo 1.0...

Ah, yes, that'll explain the amount of empty space. I was thrown by the 'Ecoboost' model reference.

That's just a typo. Should read  'E'noboost 🤣
