Where is my, 'hey google' chirp?

Featured Replies

On saying, hey google' on my Android 10, I use to get a little confirmation chirp. It still reconises my voice as the 'help' screen is activated, and I get a verbal response to a question, but where has my confirmation opening chirp gone? I've done a search on this but suggested solutions don't work... (like activate, 'play start' that's not even in my settings)

In case anyone has the same issue - I have solved it.

Was messing about again with my phone, and tried something. I pressed the 'microphone' icon on my Google bar, and hit a couple of settings. Genuinely can't remember what! However, when I closed the screen, and said, 'hey Google', my beep had miraculously returned! Sadly, I have no idea exactly what I did. It wouldn't have been too complex as I was only on for a minute or so. However, it is a robust 'fix' surviving a phone re-boot!

I give up 😂 this morning it has stopped working again!! However, if you plug in a set of wired headphones, you can clearly hear the :beep' through them. But unplug them, and beep disappears again. How can something so simple be so difficult to operate!

I'm positive I'm the only one reading this thread, but another update. I mentioned that plugging in a wired pair of headphones, you could then hear the 'beep' through them. Well, in frustration, I plugged/unplugged the headphones numerous times in succession. Well, it kick started the 'beep' through the speaker again. Have no idea why, just know it's now working as it should, and if it disappears again, I'll be plugging/unplugging again 🤣

You know what the problem is ?

We always get pictures with your stories and this one has none, not even a photo of the jack socket 🤣

That's a challenge as my  photos are taken by phone, so, here's next best thing 🤣

I wonder if the speaker is dodgy?  It's not the same one as the ear piece usually.  When the chirp fails, do other sounds still work?

That also crossed my mind. The beep plays via the media sound. Everything works absolutely perfectly. Phone crystal clear. I thought there may be a 'settings' option for speaker but can't see anything.

This thread is rather anal anyway, so I thought I'd round it off with the actual sound I'm talking about. Once you say, 'hey google', you'll hear the beep. The 2nd higher pitched beep is confirmation that 'hey google has been asked to close.

Herein lies the source of your problem. It's the switch contacts in the jack socket that have become contaminated. Working the contacts by plugging/unplugging probably creates enough wiping action to clean them, at least temporarily.

On the other hand if the chirp was the only sound you lost I might be totally wrong.

Sadly, it is the only sound I've lost, everything else is 100%, I even cleaned the jack socket with IA and an MF cloth...

Even I'm bored with this thread now LOL Just connected phone to a BluTooth speaker, can hear beep through the speaker!
