The Ignition Timing will be not be advanced enough under certain conditions and it could cause it to run a bit hotter but I would expect other symptoms like poor fuel consumption and maybe rough cruising as well.

There are probably other age related issues but I would have thought that for a car of that age the Distributer and its Vacuum Advance unit would have been common to a lot of cars so you should be able to find a replacement.

If you do get hold of a second hand Distributer I would only change the Vacuum Unit because the Mechanical Advance unit will probably not be the same.

I'd be more inclined to believe it was a weak/lazy thermostat, clogged rad and matrix or weak pump or even clogged block.

That's what I'd be investigating first

I’ve give it a good flush out have put a QH thermostat in it pump is new rad is new changed temperature switch was going to buy a stat and switch off motor sport development and try that
