How to use WhattsApp for video chat...

Featured Replies

After a lifetime 'ban' on me using WhattsApp (my choice, not theirs LOL) , I have now relinquished as Skype is being withdrawn next week, and this was the simplest replacement I could find after much research.

I have watched several YouTubes on it but can't see what I want to do.

I have a very simple basic need. I want to create one contact as 'favourite', so I can basically video chat at the touch of a button. I can't even see a video button as it all seems geared toward chat! LOL

How's it done?

Thank you. Is there a way to save a contact as a WhatsApp favourite or do you just have to look for that contact every time? Think I'm still in a Skype mindset and can't see the obvious 😊

It does it automatically once you contact them, try messaging them to kick things off.

It is only people that you either invite or you have accepted an invitation that show up in your WhatsApp contacts although there may be suggestions based on your conventional contacts.

If the other person you are having contact with is elderly then it is worth telling them not to communicate via WhatsApp with anyone that she doesn't know because WhatsApp is increasingly being used by scammers to get people off conventional communication methods, someone even tried it with me recently.

We have lift off!! Just did my first ever WhattsApp video call - actually we both commented on how much clearer the screen was over Skype, the beginning of a new era 🤣

The Chat function is also better than conventional Messaging for sending photos/video/links to things etc and for groups.

At last, I can get rid of my fax machine 🤣

Open whatsapp

Go to calls tab

Add Favourite

Select Favourite from your contact

Once you've done this you'll see phone & video camera icons next to their name.

Select video call & you'll be sorted 👍

Is there an option in WhattsApp that if you receive a 'video call' that you can decline it but accept a voice call instead? As an experiment, I 'declined' a video call but it just cut off, I would like the option if possible to downgrade to voice. I can see nothing in settings...

You can possibly accept the video call & then switch it to a video call. I know you can do the reverse. But I don't think you can accept a video call as voice only. Although I believe you can turn off your camera if you wished.

OK, officially confused LOL

Just put your finger over the camera if you're sat on the loo when it rings!

Hope you maange to figure out if it can be done. I'll give it a go the next time I'm on a video call with my Dad and update but not sure when that will be 👍

I've almost worked WhatsApp out, bar one thing. When I get an incoming call, my phone sounds both the ringing tone, AND the message notification simultaneously. I've been into the message notification settings but can't see how to stop this happening. Obviously I just want the ringing tone, but don't want to turn off the message notification for obvious reasons! (How would I know I have a message!)  Hows it done?
