Sticky Clutch pedal

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a 2013 mk3 focus 1.6 Zetec S and in my week of ownership I've noticed that occasionally the clutch pedal sticks down and I have to pull it back up with my foot. Is this an issue that can be fixed with a bit of grease or WD40 or is it something more serious. The car has 3 months warranty, but the place that I bought it from is nearly a 2 hour drive from me and I don't really want the potential hassle if I can fix it myself.

Cheers

More serious.  At best it's the master cylinder behind the pedal.  At worst it's the slave cylinder or pressure plate inside the gearbox.

thanks @TomsFocus I've let the garage know, so hopefully they can diagnose and sort it for me.

This has been mentioned on here a number of times. A fleet car my daughter drives, which I believe is a Mk4, suffers from it.

I would say if the clutch remains engaged with the pedal stuck down that would most likely be the master cylinder. It has been suggested elswhere that it can be caused by the clutch diaphragm spring becoming "over-centred" but if that were the case the clutch would be disengaged and it's difficult to see how pulling the pedal up would correct it.
