Is the website to check suitable car parts, thanks to @Bar72

As this is an expensive purchase, I'd take a photo of the current set up and send it to the supplier with your VIN and ask them to confirm it's correct?

Yeah thanks for the tip, I’ll do just that.

Ah yeah I think I see this one in the listings, thanks for mentioning the difference. Had a check and the one I need is the single one. Will probably send a picture and VIN to the supplier to make sure as @Shearers kindly mentioned.

The one I’ve sourced is around £200 with the fitting kit (seals/bolts), and has a two year guarantee. Anyone got any ideas how long this would on average last? 50k miles? 60k?

Our original diesel cat  has lasted 118k (assume your mileage is similar or more) but, again, why not ask supplier about their expected design life (outside warranty)?

Excuse the rubbish picture, but I’m fairly certain I have the single cat

That’s pretty decent considering, I assume I’ve had the original cat on the whole time I bought at around 70k she’s now near on 140k so it’s had a decent life.

I don’t mind spending the £200 if I get at least another 60k miles out of it, at which point I’ll need to assess her overall condition. By then at a 1.6L petrol she’ll be running at 200k, and I’d assume on her last legs engine wise. Until then I’m gonna try keep a watchful eye and hope she lasts me another couple years at least, we’ve been through some tough times and I’d be sad to let her go, eventually when I do

Long before then, Sir Keir Flip Flop will have made owning such a car punishable by 10 years hard labour 🙁

Until that day, I’ll be riding her until she turns over for the final time. TBH after I changed the spark plugs she’s been running smooth as ever. Then I’ve noticed the MPG drop an I’m just like Arghhhhh!

Cant all be born with a silver spoon, some of us have to make do. It’s like the all cars will be electric initiative, all at 50k a piece. Everytime I hit the M1 and see the 1000s of 44tonne Diesel trucks and think hmmmm yeah, all be electric will it.

An with Khans £1.20 to drive through the Blackwall now, don’t get me started!

A bit of hard labour in Rwanda sounds like nice break away from East London

As said before you are at the bottom of the depreciation curve(it owes you nowt)  and I know the couple of hundred sounds (is) expensive but providing there's nothing else on the horizon (you know the history) it's cheap motoring compared to the cost to change.

Yeah this is entirely what I mean, if i get a couple years for the couple hundred quid, it’s not too sore to swallow. An can rest assured I’ll never have to change the thing again…..along with the driveshaft oil seal, that’s all I can really give her at this stage before she hits the heap

Aftermarket O2 sensors are often crap.  I'd keep the originals unless they are proven faulty.

I’ll probably give these a clean while they’re out of the old cat. Will brake cleaner be best to use?

I don't recommend cleaning lambda sensors.

Crazily (a bit like if Powershift box had been refurbished and car was later scrapped with lots of life left in it etc) I'd even consider either marking up the cat with the date (and keeping the paperwork) to get extra cash when scrapping or take the cat off and sell it.
Pointless letting a cat with 8 more lives go to scrap (although these scrappers know the value of parts and sometimes charge more than new!)

On that subject, if your current cat is original, it should be worth £50+ in scrap.  Don't just take it to the tip.

Fair play, I’ll take this advice. I just assumed a clean would improve their efficiency (switching rate), as opposed to if they were a little clogged so to speak

@TomsFocus @Shearers

I was cheekily having a little gander last night in the scrap prices of used cats, as I assumed my very well broken in cat at 140k miles would have some pretty naughty / pricey metals hidden in it somewhere.

Think I was looking at £50-200 (wishful)

Out of curiosity, would cleaning the Mass Absolute Pressure sensor, after the throttle body, with the appropriate cleaner be worth a shot to improve MPG?

No. You're more likely to just break it. I don't recommend cleaning MAP sensors either.

(Acronym is Manifold Absolute Pressure btw. It's not calculating mass like a MAF does.)

did you change the catlytic converter yourself ?

did you take it out from the top ?, was there much room

I've got the twin cat version, so needs a lot of sidewards room if taking out at the top

sadly if out using dropping the sub frame slightly its a garage job, maybe that's why guy sold car to me
