Galaxy 2009 2l automatic transmission fluid change

Featured Replies

Hihas anyone got any information on how to change the fluid on the auto gearbox, not powershift. I have the box without the filter. I'm looking online and can't find anything. Also, I was sold this fluid will it be OK for the transmission I did ask twice and the guy in the shop said it will be fine. Any help would be great. Have found the drain plug and the fill point, but what about checking the level? Is there a way to check the fluid level? I know you have to flush the fluid but cant see how you check it.

If it isn't Powershift (as you say), I'd check that fluid is correct as it clearly states Dual Clutch Transmission fluid so I don't think suitable for standard torque converter boxes, if that's what you have?

I can't read what is says on the label but as it strongly suggest it is for Dual Clutch Transmissions, I would not use it. Your vehicle does NOT have a DCT Powershift manufactured by Getrag.

Your veh has a normal type auto trans with a torque converter, the trans being manufactured by Aisin Warner.

Officially there is no Ford Motor Co recommended oil change/service.

You will surely find how to do it on You Tube - you cannot totally drain it as a fair amount stays in the torque converter, so it has to be a matter of drain what you can, refill correctly, run vehicle, drain what you can, refill correctly - just a "flush out" really.

You maybe able to find correct oil and spec by putting your reg into say the Castrol oils website

Ok so took it all back and got a refund as I'm.now thinking it is the TCM. I read on here and have all rhe symptoms. Drove it around, get a service transmission warning goes into limp mode traction control light comes on then a engine malfunction warning ⚠️.  Fan is buzzing. Plugged it in and got codes, so I am thinking replace TCM. Have emailed myself the report will see if I can upload it. What are everyone's thoughts ? Am I on the right track I'm sure I am. Looking at purchasing a used TCM.

Sorry, I can't help you as I have no experience of Aisin Warner, even though I am "old" now - my main background is Jaguar Cars Ltd (went there straight from school into the Service Dept). I have always been a Ford supporter/owner

Hopefully someone else will have some suggestions

Being Powershift, also have no idea about Aisin Warner BUT, what I see is a lot of codes (which ones stick?) AND there are a lot of U codes which are communication faults?
I'd record codes (as you have done) clear, see what comes back and sticks.
If  transmission U code again and before anything else I'd want to confirm integrity of wiring from box to PCM looking for shorts/wear/load test etc.
Otherwise, I'm also out (as per Dragon's Den!)

Ok so I changed the TCM drove it down the road got about 500m and again EML came on reduced power traction control light on. Was not smooth gear changes before limp mode hanging onto gears. Got it home went to reverse onto drive went Into reverse with a thud and smoke came out as I reversed back. Really stank. Fan was on. Got these codes. Any help on this I'm assuming the torque converter is gone or the gearbox Is knackered. I'm at my end. See report attached

With all those codes what made you think you needed a TCM?

"You read on here and have all the symptoms"? Of what? Powershift issues?

Yours is an AISIN TC transmission!

You have major COMs issues!

It could just be that the battery is on the way out. When was the battery last changed? If you don't know, fit a fully charged new battery (don't try fully charging that one because it's had it), reset the DTCs (with FORScan) and you may find all the faults go away!

If not, suspect cluster fault or you have a fault with the CAN somewhere

Stop keep throwing parts at it, find out what is really wrong

Refit the original TCM!

Get yourself set up on FORScan with the V-Linker cable, read the DTCs, then clear the DTCs and see what comes back.

Investigate and rectify based on the real DTCs

If you're not sure what you are doing take it to a reputable auto electrician who can investigate and find where the CAN issue is

DaveT70 I know mines an Aisin box Euro parts sold me the transmission oil and filter that I don't have. I was told it could be the TCM

Just had a brand new battery

As for throwing parts at it I've put a new TCM on as advised it could be that.

I read in another thread that the issues I'm having are to do with the TCM I'm going to take it to a garage as I clearly as you said font know what I'm doing ! Sites like this can be so good sometimes people have had the same problem and can be helpful other times you just get shot down in flames but hey that's how it goes.

To be fair, long distance diagnosis is incredibly difficult and, personally, I don't hold any store when a "professional" or otherwise says , it MAY be XYZ especially when that is an expensive, difficult to replace part - that, to me is totally guessing, not testing
Even if someone has had the "same" problem the solution  can often be different, unless you are lucky (you have replaced the TCM and haven't been lucky!!!)

As said above, the codes need to be noted, cleared and see what sticks.
U codes are communication errors often related to wiring faults/short circuits/corrosion, difficult to find without expertise but need to be investigated (can sometimes be a faulty module - but obviously not in your case - how much did that suggestion cost?)

I'd look at You Tube:
Diagnose Dan
Skoda Yoda
Milligan Auto Diagnostics
ECU Testing
To see how diagnosis SHOULD (IMHO) be tackled...

Ok so I took it to a garage and they told me it was my battery lead drove down the road and guess what I went into limp mode same lights and codes came up. So took it back to be told it was that and it test drove fine. No refund so I look at it again myself and while staring at it for about 15 mins I noticed a clicking sound every minute by the stop watch I narrowed it down to the fuse box and it was the PCM relay clicking but the car was unlocked but the key was in my pocket. So I replaced this and was fine. Car drives fine had it booked in with ford but is a two week waiting list to get in.

Thanks for coming back but for clarity...
Are you saying that it was the key or the PCM relay change OR ?
And is the entire issue now fixed after the TCM and battery lead were replaced (but they may have been OK, or not?
And, can you cancel the Ford appointment (with long waiting list) or not?
