Need help with mk4 interior trim removal

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a Ford Focus MK4 2019, and I’m installing a rear dashcam. I need help with the removal of the rear section trims. I tried pulling on the lower side and I hear what sounds like glue instead of a clip, so I’m not sure how to proceed. Additionally, any tips on removing the rest of the sections that lead to the boot (https://imgur.com/a/ynvYtlb) would be greatly appreciated.

The passenger side was easy, the trim lifts right up and I managed to place the cable inside the harness channel. However, I’m not sure how to approach the rear section since giving it a hard pull doesn’t seem to make it move.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, that's exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

I don't understand why you need to 'remove' trim to install the rear dashcam. I did mine without removing anything except the trim at the top of the hatchback door to feed the cable through the rubber conduit. Everywhere else in the car, the cable can be fed in to the top of the side trims and over the roof lining to the rear door.

Hello PaterAnt, the mk4 model have airbags in the roof called courtain airbags, so putting a cable on their path is dangerous, it could impide their corret deployment, that's why you should use the floor channel where all the cables go from the junkbox to the trunk, and that implies removing trim.

You should watch a YouTube of a curtain airbag exploding - believe me, a dash cam cable ain't going to stop it 🤣

I'd imagine a cable being flung out by an exploding airbag could do some damage to an occupant though.

Yep, being in a car crash severe enough to explode the air curtain, having a 4mm dashcam cable slap you on the face would be a big worry 🤣

The problem is not the cable hitting your face, is the cable restraining the correct deploy if the airbag.

The sheer force that the side curtain airbag goes off the cable will be snapped in an instance. There are already several cables running along the side of the roof lining, for example the aerial cable, the courtesy light cable, sunroof cable, rear screen wash pipe etc.

At the end of the day it is up to the individual to install the rear dashcam in a manner that they are happy with.

just push the cable up behind the trim , with fingers. no need to take trim off

Hi,

I wanted to do the same. Did you succeed in removing the trim? Do you have any pointers pehaps? I would like to route the cable all the way from the bottom to the boot headliner. Thanks.
