2013 1.0 T zetec s engine swap

Featured Replies

Hi guys, Ive been playing around with the idea of swapping my engine due to its tendency to create new and bigger problems every day. Im aware that the easiest thing to do is swap it with the same engine or even a NA 1.25L but id want something bigger or quicker preferably an ST engine. I’m just curious about cost because I wont want to do it if its extortionate.

Thanks,

Finn.

Unfortunately Not everyone can just go out and buy a new car and I cant sell this one for what its worth because of its unreliability so what I was trying to see is if it was worth looking into … thanks for the reply though your comment was really necessary and helpful

It's not just a simple matter of changing the engine. There is the gearbox, driveshafts to consider. Then the fitting of ST brakes and suspension. Then finally the whole issue of the PCM and BCM and what software are they going to be running.

If you can get a working car for less than £5000 then you can call it a success. Don't forget you will need a specialist insurance quote from Dan 😉

As Unofix's post above, the point is that it would probably cost more to source and fit an ST engine/gearbox, carry out the necessary brake/ suspension/engine management etc mods and sort the insurance on a heavily modified car, than to simply swap for an ST.

Probably the simplest option to avoid extra work/complications would be to source a good reconditioned or used engine of the same type, as you suggest in your OP.

I guess you need to look at what you could get for the car as it stands (WBAC, etc) as opposed to what it might fetch with a replacement engine. Couple of examples of new/recond prices on the 1.0 option:

Hi.

If you have any issues with insurance at all for this type of conversion then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

What's wrong with it then?
