P1061 Engine Replacement on Hybrid

Featured Replies

Hello, just joined the forum today, as I was told yesterday that the ongoing issue I’ve been having with my hybrid S-Max has resulted in it needing an entire engine replacement courtesy of Ford!

Long story short,  it went in to limp mode after a long drive to Cornwall a few weeks ago, and the RAC man, although able to clear enough codes to get it going again, was unable to clear the code P1061 which only Ford can deal with. Once back, I took it to the dealer to investigate, and they just said we’ve cleared it but would like you to keep an eye on it now and report back to us.

Last weekend my wife went to Leicester, and again after a long drive the car went in to limp mode again. Again the RAC cleared enough codes to get it driving, and it then went back in to limp mode the day after returning home.

I took it to Ford again, and this time, yesterday, they said that under a Ford programme, they will be replacing the entire engine for no charge.

Some googling later, it appears that a batch of crankshafts left a factory in Mexico with some bearings wrongly polished, which resulted in premature engine knock and wear. Ford didn’t know which engines they made it in to, and so have been waiting for them to fail so they can deal with it.

So there you go. Thought it might be of interest, and wondered if anyone had had the same happen?

Welcome & Thanks!
We looked to change our 2011 S-MAX for a hybrid but the Arnold Clark offer of £50 trade in put us off a lot so it's staying for its lifetime (whatever that is!)
