Interesting cars, Asda car park...

Featured Replies

This morning my local Asda hosted some car park space to local 'vintage' & other cars of interest to celebrate May Day weekend. On driving out, there was a queue of about 30+ cars waiting to join the exhibition, looked like a good episode of 'Bangers and Cash'. Amongst some Cobra kit cars, a Westfield, 1960s Mini, there was a 50s Wolsey, 80s Manta GTE, Morris Minor, etc etc. The thing that struck me was that I could name 95% of them. I wonder in another 50 years, how many could name the current crop of anonymous EV cars...

I struggle to name them now, though I did pick out a Polestar 2!

Been up at our caravan this week, and coincidentally the local public car park was playing host to some very tasty motors, several 911s (including a couple of GT 3s, Ferraris (including an F40) and a selection of visiting Morgans with Netherlands plates.

The main road there has had the "tar and chip" treatment😠 this week, so I hope they escaped unscathed. I drove very carefully and slowly when we left this morning!

What's on the front of the willys jeep?

Brother in law got 3 of them. One was a radio jeep, with antenna that bends from the rear over the roof and ties to the bonnet while driving from what I remember.  The one shown is a french built jeep.

Interesting question, I never really took note of it. However, growing up in Belfast during the troubles, there were loads of military vehicles with a similar pole. I remember being told at the time that they were to trigger a wire across the road which may have been set up to an explosive device. Doesn't make much sense to me now either LOL

Spoke to brother in law and he said the army drove the jeeps with the windscreen down and the Germans put wire across the road at neck height so off came your head. So bar cut the wire. Brother in law has one but hasn't put it on any of his jeeps.

I was told a different explanation today but I'm sure both could be correct.  During the troubles, it was common to transfer troops around in bus type transporters. The wire across the street made the larger vehicles quite vulnerable, so the pole on the lead vehicle triggered the wire to protect the convoy, as a jeep was more expendable than a whole transporter.
