Prove you're a human...

Featured Replies

In the last 10 days or so, virtually every web site I try and load now has a verification screen to prove you're a human! Is this a new browser addition, or determined by the web site, or some new legislation?

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago.  (Possibly in the cashless thread?).  I'm still getting it pretty much every day.  No idea why though.  I use Edge & Chrome so I don't think it's browser specific.

After (or before) all of the hack activities it's an additional step to avoid Bots accessing the site (I think it knows how a human moves the mouse to tick the box?)

Don't you find it curious that AI, proclaimed as the saviour of the world with massive intelligence, and processing power, can't simply search the page, look for a blank box, place a tick in it, and totally override this awfully simple test of humanity? 🤣

It's not really about a tick in a box.  By ticking the box you're giving it permission to check your Internet search history and even cursor tracking to see if you have human movements.

After treatment for bowel cancer, I have many of those 🤣

Yes, this does seem to have cropped up only recently. It's not too bad if it's only like Stephen's original post, but more and more seem to have the "tick all the images with (for example) traffic lights". Those are a real pain.

Similarly I've noticed a large upturn in two factor authentication when buying online. It used to be fairly infrequent, now it's virtually every transaction. Also, I keep encountering a problem after entering card details. Where a small screen would usually pop up and request the code sent to your mobile, I keep getting a blank and everything freezes. This mainly seems to happen with Visa cards. Not had the issue yet with other cards. Anyone getting this?

I absolutely hate those, and if anyone discovers a hack to avoid them, please post!

Thankfully no. a bit like driving, years ago it use to be fun, no longer, surfing use to be enjoyable, now often it's  just a nuisance!

Just come off a very long conversation with my bank about the two factor authentication issue I mentioned earlier (Visa Secure).

Both my wife and myself have had the "grey screen of doom" when trying to do online transactions with our Visa debit and credit cards. We both also have a Mastercard with which we have no problems.

Anyway, my bank were unable to offer any explanation for this, but did at least confirm that there is absolutely no issue with any of our accounts which could cause a problem, which is reassuring I suppose.

So still rather stumped.
