Key fob programming not working.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I hope this hasn't been asked a million times before, but I can't seem to find a fix for my issue.

I have just got a 2009 focus 1.6 zetec petrol, changed the battery in the fob, and since then it wont remotely unlock the car.

Never had such a faff about with changing a battery before, found out about reprogramming the fob to the car afterwards. I can get the car into programming more by turning the key between positions 1 and 2, 4 times, I hear the chime, but when I press the fob, nothing, tried several batteries and still nothing.

I also disconnected the car battery negative terminal for 30 mins, and tried again, but still no luck.

I can't believe I would have to get a new key programmed, all for changing a battery.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

The new battery in the keyfob is either dead which is a very very very common problem or it is incorrectly fitted.

Do you have a multimeter?

Measure the keyfob battery voltage. It should be 3.30V for a good new battery. If it is less than 2.99V then it is dead.

Just checked the battery in there, it's measuring 3.34, so look good.

Is it fitted the right way up?

It is, I just took the small contact point for the battery out, cleaned it with iso and re bent it, and it's worked, must have been a poor connection.

Thanks for taking the time to reply bud.
