FIESTA MK6 2005 CENTRAL LOCKING

Featured Replies

Having abandoned the repair of my front N/S door I've fitted a scrap door the same colour. It came with a harness which seemed to plug into the frame OK but we had to use the old inner door panel, the one with the handle screwed in.

Trouble is certain things don't work:

1) The electric window on the new door won't wind down.

2) The central locking fails on all four doors, not the boot. There are two clunks instead of one. The doors remain unlocked and the mirrors stay outward.

3) The speaker works.

4) I can adjust the N/S mirror from the driver's side.

I'll try electrical contact spray on the harness where it enters the frame but I'm not looking forward  to removing the panel all over again to swap the harness with my old one. The old door worked fine, if it is a harness issue I'll just have to start again I suppose.

The plugs are universal.  But they have a different number of wires fitted for different functions.

I can't remember whether Ghia got one touch windows all round on Fiesta?  If yes, that'll need the correct door module as well.

Only the two front windows are electric. Starting to look like I'll have to take an 8 mile drive retrieve the door and remove the harness. BTW before anyone else tries a Fiesta door won't fit inside a Fiesta 😟

Ok, I'm not sure about the door modules in that case.  Front windows only could just use the main GEM module instead.  You will need the other loom though.  And while you're there, get the other door lock/latch mechanism, as there were several versions of those as well.

Great news, having removed the glass, window motor, door lock, loom from the old door the new door lock magically started working. Believing the fault to be over-long storage by the scrapper I sprayed the N/S lock over & over with WD40. So far it still works. No idea what the storage conditions at supplier were like the door was mail order.

Scraped all around the new door's glass with a knife and sprayed WD40 in there too but still stuck. I may have to swap the "new" winder for my old one, at least that's easier than removing the loom. I find that door glass on an old door may wiggle a bit and loosen, but this one won't budge with both hands.

OK sorry one thing I overlooked and I'm getting conflicting advice. The day before the MOT (end June) of course the central locking will play up won't it. Hence will the car fail? The RAC advice is confusing:

Testers will check that the doors can be opened from inside and outside the car

That's ridiculous since even my hi-tech 2005 Ghia only has one keyhole. So if the central locking fails only ONE door can be opened from the outside, the one with An Ole in it.

Doors need to open and close.  Not lock & unlock.  Just make sure they're all unlocked before the test and don't lock it before you hand over the keys.

If the window mechanism is the same as on my two door, clean all the old grease of the sliding bits, and put on some new - after 20 years, it is probably a bit hard !

Thanks Paul "sliding bits" can I assume this means removing the outer plastic door card-panel, the one I had issues with earlier 😟

My driver's side window wiper motor stripped some teeth - needless to say, when the window was fully open !  I had trouble getting a replacement motor, and ended up changing the gear wheel, which was a bit of a palaver.  On my two door there is a long "Bowden" cable which moves the  two sliders  that carry the glass and the grease was dry and hard. The mechanic in my local service station, suggested the dry hard grease was the cause of the failure.

Later, when I had to change the door lock on the passenger side, I gave that side a good clean and refreshed the grease.

Thanks Paul I'll have to tackle the plastic inner (outer?) door panel in the week. I still have the motor & mech from the former door which all worked fine. I'd hate to apply grease reassemble and find the issue is the same so just removing the bits may be the route to go.
