Is it worth replacing?

Featured Replies

I have 2013 1L Ford Fiesta Ecoboost 70,000 miles on clock. I've had it from new. I had the timing belt changed by a Ford Dealer at the appropriate time. However, I had to have the alternator replace a month ago because apparently coolant had leaked onto it. The garage then told me that my turbo needed replacing because it was becoming dry. At my local Ford Dealer it will cost about £1300 to replace and fit.

Is this worth doing or am I on the slippery slope of expensive repairs?

Any advice gratefully received. Thank you

If the turbo is on it's way out, the vacuum pump is probably not far off now.

Then you've got the clutch if that's never been done.

And the cats tend to wear out around 10 years old.

It's always difficult to know whether to more money into them or sell up and change.  Personally I've always regretted putting more money into things, so I tend to cut my losses early now.  But that won't work for everyone.

The turbo doesn't have to be done at a Ford garage btw, there's nothing special about that (unlike the wetbelt!) so your local garage should be able to quote less than Ford for it.  Aftermarket turbos can be sourced for around £250, plus fitting at around £300.  So that doesn't have to be super expensive if you're open to aftermarket parts.

Thank you for your advice. I took the car to another garage for a second opinion on the Turbo. I was told it was ok and did not need replacing after all.

There's a shock!
