Latest Ford without Start Stop

Featured Replies

Hello all, I’m trying to find a car for a grandparent, he specifically wants a Ford without start/stop technology, he wants a smaller Ford either Focus, Fiesta or KA+ but I’m unsure whether the newer cars come without the start stop tech. He currently owns a Fiesta Zetec ‘17 Mk8

Are there any of these cars that come without the technology? If not what is the newest Ford without it?

I have explained to him numerous times that you can disable the start/stop with a button & also you can do a OBD to remove it, but being old and stuck in his ways, he’s not interested and would like to get a new one without startstop.

Much appreciated for your information.

2017 was the crossover year between Mk7 & Mk8.  Which does he currently own?

A lot of the Mk7s came without stop start.  I'm not sure whether any of the Mk8s though.  Even the 1.1 non-turbo needed SS to meet emissions regs by that point.

Hi he owns the mk8 with the screen so the newer models, am I right in thinking mk7 fiestas can come without start stop?

Yes, a lot of the Mk7's came without start stop from 2008 onwards.  1.25, 1.4 and 1.6 petrol.  Many 1.0 EcoBoost (but not all).  1.0 non-turbo.  1.6 EcoBoost ST.  I can't remember which diesels came without SS.  Early 1.4 TDCI possibly.

The "newest" car we are talking about here is probably 10 years old plus. It really doesn't seem to make sense to buy a much older car with the potential for lots of problems just to avoid stop/start (which rarely works anyway) when you can easily disable it with one press of a button as part of your "cockpit drill"!

I'm pretty old and set in my ways myself but even I can manage that!😀

Although I fully agree with you, it’s an elderly grandfather stuck in his ways 🙂. I have explained you can just turn it off, and get it wiped via OBD.  Seems he wants it gone completely.. I have stressed how easy it is but he’s not having it 🙁

Seems they made KA+ in 16/17 so I’m wondering if that doesn’t have start stop.. it doesn’t have a LCD screen, and I can’t see the Start Stop button on the console, could it be within settings without a LCD?

Ka+ is an odd model.  Very few around in the UK.  It does appear that the early ones don't have SS.  I suspect it was added when the engine was changed from 4 cylinder to 3 cylinder.  (Confusingly still 1.2 capacity).

You appear to be correct (as usual) Tom. Just looked at the online handbooks (rain has stopped my gardening for a while!). No mention in original (2016) version, section on S/S in the facelift (2018) handbook.

Based on an Indian model (Figo?) and very few seem to have been sold here. Not much in its favour from what I've seen.

I don't know if the 3 cylinder is a wet belt - I suspect it is. I'm sure I've seen a thread on that point somewhere, but can't recall if anyone had a definitive answer.

Yes, the parts catalogue shows it as a wetbelt.  Strangely they refer to it as 1.2 Dragon, despite 1.5 Dragon being chain driven.

As the KA is Fiat based, I guess that will be a version of the Peugeot 1.2 Puretec, which is even worse that the Ecoboom!

This is a Ka+ which is a fully Ford design.  Nothing to do with the Ka at all.

The Fiat 500 engine in the 'proper' Ka uses a dry cambelt.  Although it does have a very short interval.

Although now part of the Stellantis Group, the 500 doesn't use a Puretech.

It looks as though the latest version, which is an ICE version of the 500 electric (hard to keep up with this!) won't either.

There are 1.5 wet belt Dragons for the Indian market, so I guess that figures.

Thank you for information. Are we referring to the early ones as the 2016MY? So first KA+ cheers

Being developed in Brazil and manufactured in India (at least for the European/UK market) the Ka+ did not really meet our expectations and standards. Very few were sold and to be honest the Ka+ did not have much to offer.

I suspect that Ford wanted to offer an A-segment car without having to invest in development. They just took the Ford Figo and rebadged it to a Ka+.

As far as I remember the Ka+ was too expensive to become a success. The price difference between a Ka+ and an equally spec Fiesta MK7.5 was quite little. Many people bought the Fiesta instead of a Ka+.

Peugeot 1.2 Puretec,

Straying wildly off the original topic as usual. However, I recall an earlier discussion where we found from 2023 the Puretech was now chain cam drive:

There's another option...surefire way to avoid stop start is choosing an EV. :whistling:

Yes.  The later 3 pot engine was fitted from March 2018.

That's build date though, so can't rely on reg date alone.
