Soon to be Ex Toyota Owner

Featured Replies

After a few days of owning a brand new Toyota Corolla, I’m returning it. The reason is it’s painful nay annoying to disable the loud audio beeps 5mph before the speed limit and going 1mph over the speed limit. The lane assist is also downright dangerous, as evidenced by a near head-on collision.

I’m visiting Group1 Ford Basingstoke tomorrow. Before I do, can someone kindly confirm whether Ford 2025 models have a button or 1-click audio mute option for speed alerts?

Thanks in advance.

Speed alerts are a legal requirement now, all 2025 cars are likely to have them.

GSR 2 safety regulations mandate ADAS on all cars now, as Tom says.

Some are easier to (temporarily) disable than others - the Renault group system is one of the best I've seen.

Just a thought - have you been on https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/ to see if anyone knows of an easier way to switch things off.

Yes, thank you, I have. No easy way. However, folks there said Ford had an easier way to turn off the audio alerts. To be clear, I want the visual cues, and in some cases audio as well, but I want an easier way to disable the audio. Toyota’s have a convoluted menu system to turn off the audio alerts.

Oh, so it sounds as if there is no quick way to disable audio alerts in new Fords either?

Absolutely agree; they do. To clarify, I want the visual alerts, but have a quick way to disable the audio alerts. Folks on the Toyota forum led me to believe it was easier to do this on Fords?

That's interesting.  Over here we tell people to buy Toyotas!  (For reliability, build quality, 10 year warranty, etc...)

I'm afraid I haven't had such a new Focus myself.  I believe you would have to go through the dash displays to switch off audible warnings.  The limiter itself can be switched off using a button on the light stalk after every start, but it sounds like you don't want to lose all limiter functionality here.

I can't be definitive from personal experience, unfortunately. On my 2023 car lane keeping and speed alert for example require one press for each to turn off completely but then remember that setting at next start up. I doubt you can do that on a 2025. You can vary the sound level of alerts in the touchscreen menus.

Problem is, very few on here are buying new Fords, people are defecting to other brands (including Toyota!), so we get few reports on current systems. I know one member has bought a 2025 Puma Gen-e recently so if @Pedrofidds sees this he may be able to comment.

As you're visiting Ford tomorrow, hopefully you can find someone knowledgeable enough to satisfy you on the point. You don't mention which model you might be interested in, but systems may well differ between models - the Explorer and Capri EVs are VW based.

I lurk on the Toyota forum myself out of possible future interest. Just having a cuppa after my Sunday morning walk and re-reading the Safety Systems thread on there:

Not good reading! I assume that's you talking about returning the car!😀
