Leaking coolant but not sure what it is

Featured Replies

Notice I've got dripping of coolant even when the car isn't running or at temp. I've had a look round the engine and the only place I can see it coming from is this bolt possible bleeding point not too sure any help will be appreciated. It's a 2010 1.4 turbo. Picture of the engine side on isn't the same engine but in that location

The bolt the arrow is pointing to is the turbo oil feed pipe.  Oil can leak from that one, but not coolant.

Just to the right of that is the oil cooler (rectangular thing with all the slats).  Coolant does run around that and through the rubber pipe just above that bolt.

I can't really see which bolt it is on the engine pictures, but it's definitely not a bleed point that far down, those are always near the top where the air bubbles rise to.

Thank you, yeah im not sure what it could be that's the only place I can see the coolent dripping from any ideas on how to find out where it's coming from. I've checked the thermostat thats bone dry

Only thing you can do is remove a few more parts so we can see more clearly what's above that bolt.  I suspect the leak is coming from above, rather than coming from the bolt itself.

The only coolant in that area should be for the oil cooler though.  If it's not that then you're looking at a crack in the engine or a split in the headgasket.

I'm hoping it's just a easy fix and not something major only recently done the thermostat
