Alarm going off random

Featured Replies

Please help. My son bought a car at Christmas and on the screen keeps coming up the bonnet open and alarm goes off. Now I know its the sensor thats not detecting the bonnet shut, but I've cleaned the latch ect and its still doing it. Probably more as its 30 degrees. Do we need to buy a whole new latch? Is it just a sensor we buy? I know its a common problem on ford's but usually a quick clean does the trick. Please help this mumma out with her sons first car.

Yes.

The switch assembly for the alarm is part of the latch. You should be able to get one on eBay for around £25

Unable to help further with out knowing the exact model and age of the vehicle. If you tell me either the registration number or the VIN, then I can advise you of the Ford part number.

Please post further questions in the main forums (FIESTA - FOCUS, etc) and not in the sub-forum GUIDES, which is intended for explanations on how to do something.

Another short term alternative is to hot wire it so to speak.

Take the connector off and Electrically join both both sides together to fool the BCM into thinking the Bonnet is closed all the time. Some people do it with a Paper Clip but that method may only last a few weeks or months.

The downside is that in the unlikely event that someone break's into your car via the Bonnet then the Alarm will not go off and if your Insurance company found out they may not pay out.
