Well, I called Kwik Fit back today after calling them last Thursday who said someone would get back to me but they didn't.

The guy I spoke with today said that something could've have happened while they were refilling the gas especially as it's an older car, but they can't test it any further or fix it as it's something they don't do any more such as (due to environmental issues 🙄) using the green dye. Instead I would have to take it somewhere else to find out if the gas has actually escaped and it's not anything else that has failed.

It 'sounded' as if they would give a refund once it was confirmed, but not sure.

Never bloomin' straight forward.

Good advice, plenty of specialist A/C shops around that should be able to diagnose and offer repair of fault. I would have asked outright about the refund, but I'm an assertive git 😂

I am surprised they wouldn't test the gas pressure again.

They won't fit new AC parts though as they're just a servicing chain, not a repairs type garage.

Just an update on this one.

A mobile Air Con guy came round yesterday to test mine. He said there was a very small leak but just can't find it but is probably behind some component which he can't get access to. He explained he was a bit surprised that for a small leak the gas had disappeared after having it refilled at Kwik Fit in the first week of July. He also said that Kwik Fit's equipment would probably not pick up a small leak but it should have still lasted at least two months if they had filled it properly.

He offered to use some sealant which should block any small leaks in the system while having it regassed. I'm not sure how that works but took his word for it and said go ahead. Any body know or heard of this magic sealant?

So that's £40 for the diagnostics which was already agreed, another £40 for the sealant and £70 for the regassing.

Hopefully, this sealant has done its job, and will be taking the advice of others by leaving the air con on all the time from now on.

In the meantime, he gave me a report stating he found a leak and there was no gas left, so hopefully Kwik Fit will give me a refund on Monday 😬

The sealant works in the same way as Radweld.  Basically remains liquid until it reaches air and then goes hard.  In theory there should only be air coming through external leaks, which is what you want to plug up.  Though I'm not a fan of anything like this as they can clog up other components in the system.

Monday is a bank holiday so Kwik Fit may not be open.
