help someone please help !

purchased a 2020 ford focus titanium for taxi business, have had ongoing problems with it  breaking down since purchased in Jan 2024, put on diagnostics, nothing, had regular - services, etc and have broken down 3 times now. on side of the motorway & towed back to the house   (not to mention locally too )

the  last one we were towed to a ford garage where the car still in.  latest now, even  after being put on the diagnostics ( nothing showing )  in may, we have now been told by the garage, they can fix it to get it on the road - for £1000 no guarantee that it will start... or secondly replace the whole fuel system at a cost of £6000- the car is on finance ( HP) we have told there is swalf in the fuel tank and the likelihood we picked up the dregs from a petrol station...  my husband has never left his car on empty due to the nature of his business, to be told this is the cause, how can metal particles be in the fuel tank, when it had to go through a filter system,  a new filter was fitted in april 2025 - we are at a complete loss as no business, the car is in bit at the ford garage and they will not take accountability that its a ford problem - are we correct.. the garage have said that its down to us getting bad petrol ???  the quote is quote evasive but clearly is £5900 - can anyone advise us, of what to do or whether this is something we should be pushing ford to pay for??? we have been in contact with Group1 Ford - who have said on the discussion with this mechanic, they will not support us .  any advice please......

Hi,

Is this a diesel engine?

Usually metal in the tank cones from the high pressure fuel pump wearing out.  The metal goes through the injectors and breaks them as well.  Then it goes to the tank.

The filter only stops any metal that has got to the tank going back to the engine again.

If it's a petrol then it's very unusual to get metal in the tank.

Fantastic advice, as per.........................

But will she return😬😉
