Lost Communication With...

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has any advice here.

Recently my EcoSport has had several lights pop up on the dash at once while driving. These include, ABS, handbrake, BLIS sensor and more. As well as this my navigation turns off and all dials on the instrument cluster go to zero. The car continues to drive fine, apart from the annoying beeping, and when I slow down the power steering goes. After a couple minutes the car restarts and runs fine. It has happened 4 times in the last month or so.

Plugged into FORScan Lite and got all these codes for multiple areas: U0121, U0151, U1012, U0155, U0401, U0212, U0131, U0100, B11D9, U0253, U0452. There are more codes but all similar messages.

Essentially all codes are Lost communication with ... (ECM, PCM, BCM, ABS, Power steering module, restraint module etc)

The car has had a new battery and wire inspection for rodent damage and has been to Ford but they could not replicate the lights. Was advised by an independent garage it might need a new BCM but they are unsure.

Ford EcoSport ST-Line 1.0l petrol 140bhp.

Thanks

Use a multimeter and measure the battery voltage across the terminals with the engine off. about one hour after you park it.

What voltage do you get ?

12.2V

State Of Charge is far too low. If this is a new battery then in needs a minimum of 12 hours on charge.

So I did some voltages again and got some differing results. I don't have access to a charger right now so just doing some other bits in the meantime.

Just parked - 12.66V

1hr later - 12.58V

2hr later - 12.54V

Next morning - 12.50V

Could this could be slightly lower from unlocking and locking the car each time? Are these results okay?

Those voltages (all of them) are fine and very typical of a battery in good health.

  • So do you still have a problem ?
  • Can you clear all previous DTC's using FORScan ?
  • If you still have a problem what are they ?

Yes, the problem hadn't occurred in a few days and then happened again yesterday, hence checking the voltages again.

I have cleared all codes using FROScan and they come back upon refresh.

It's the same problem as originally stated.

All indications are a problem with low battery voltage.

Since the readings above are suggesting that all is OK with the battery then I think you have to be looking at a lose battery cable, lose earth cable or a faulty BMS sensor.

Okay I'll have another look at all the connections.

I assume the way to check if it is the BMS is to connect a new one and see?

For only £20, I'd change it if you can find no other problem.

That's an excellent price, hope he takes you up on the offer!

Got the part and changed it out. No codes at first but then they all came back after two days.
