Focus 1.6 TDCi EGR problem? - But what is this part please?

Featured Replies

Hi folks.
I'm trying to identify this part because my local mechanic says it's faulty according to the diagnostics. Apparently part of the EGR system, but not the valve. It's forward of the block on the left side on my Focus Mk2 1.6 TDCi. Can't find a decent labelled diagram online anywhere.
Thanks for your time.
Iain

What exact code and description was flagged, why didn't mechanic tell you the details?
From the limited picture (and my knowledge) I'd say it is the Intake Air Throttle Valve, but there looks like a MAP and other sensor - really need more info???

Thanks guys. I'd got to it being the throttle valve pictured, but the diagnostics gave only "System Failure EGR. (Permanent). Mechanic said the problem wasn't the EGR valve on the other side of the engine, when I asked, where you have to remove the wipers etc to replace it.

@unofix The timing belt seems quite noisy to me i.e. whirring noise which changes pitch depending on speed. Originally thought it was the aux tensioner whirring, but changing that didn't make any difference. I think the EGR fault may be a separate issue. The car kind of loses power occasionally and I get a puff of smoke from the exhaust. Not the glow plugs, because they were changed maybe 20000 km ago maximum. I have no idea why the mechanic seemed so confident that it's not the EGR valve itself?
