2006 1.4 fiesta gear selector issues

Featured Replies

So I have the 1.4 mk6 fiesta I can select gears 12345R without the car on and clutch down now when I go to 5th whilst driving it goes in fine but is solid to get back out again what could this be also happens at times with reverse but not as bad.

I have already taken the selector off drilled it out to 12mm re greased checked all parts and they seem ok anyone experienced this issue before.

Hi,

Pressing the clutch without the car on doesn't make any difference.  You should be able to select all gears without pressing the clutch like that.

This does sound like a clutch fault to me.  It's probably heating up and dragging after you've been cruising in 5th for a while.

Reverse doesn't have a synchro on the IB5 so that's always been difficult to get in and out unless everything is perfectly lined up.

Yeah it goes in and out without fail when car is off but when I get into 5th it will go in perfectly fine just a struggle to get out no matter how long I drive it stays the same.

Hmm, that is odd.  It that case it could be a gearbox issue.

Think the most efficient option here is to fit a good used gearbox (tested prior to removal, with a warranty) and a new clutch kit at the same time.

The alternative is removing your gearbox and taking that to a specialist for a strip down for diagnosis and potential repair, but that won't be cheap and you'll be without a car for however long it takes.

Check engine/gearbox mounts too
