Possible clutch issue

Featured Replies

Morning all, I’ve got a 64 plate focus 1.6 tdci. Just started having this issue when I start it and it goes away when driving unless I dip my clutch. Took it to my local garage and they’re convinced it’s nothing to do with the clutch. They’re saying maybe egr or turbo issue but I don’t believe it is. Anyone have any ideas?? It sounds like something is catching but soon as I press my clutch down it stops. Tried to upload a video but it won’t let me. Thanks

If the noise stops when you press the clutch, it's the clutch.

take it to another garage, or a clutch/gearbox specialist

Cheers mate. Took it to a different garage. Release bearing faulty, £900 job. Had it done 2 years ago but garage seems to think the place I took it before used cheap parts 🙄

£900 for a clutch change?

Get them to check the input shaft bearing while the gearbox is out.  That one is not uncommon to fail on the Mk3 1.6 TDCI.
