Tyres

Featured Replies

Other car but hoping for expert advise, on Michelin tyre's.

Tread depth almost at legal limit after only 11.000 very carefully driven miles, wear is even across tread of both tyres and car does not pull to one side and steering wheel central, so although I have not had tracking or alignment checked I don't consider this to be the reason, though I am not a mechanic.

Obviously I would have expected far more miles out of new tyre's.

Just thought maybe Honda fitted the cheapest tyres to sell the car however been told this is not common with HR-V.

Shortly after delivery of the new car I did report a front end wobble which was eventually diagnosed as a part left out from one of the axles.
Once this had been rectified all appeared ok, though now I am wondering If this could be the reason for the excessive wear.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Honda's don't break.  They don't need an owners club!

On a serious note, all manufacturers bulk buy tyres as a trade deal, and they generally have less tread than privately bought tyres of the same brand & model.  So it's not unusual for new tyres to wear out within the warranty period.  Upselling tyres at a dealership service is a well known money maker.

Also, Michelin make many different types of tyre.  Some will have soft compounds for better handling and braking, but will wear more quickly.  Others will have harder compounds to last longer and reduce emissions, but that means worse handling and braking.  Many manufacturers now suggest they come up with compounds that can do both of those things well, defying the laws of physics, but I'm yet to see that in the real world so far.

I prefer Dunlop made in England with an inner tube. That's no space saver, full size spare.

Is there some kind of liquid or cleaner to maintain a bit the tyres?

Not really.

Providing the tracking is good, they're balanced, correctly inflated, you don't do burn outs and you don't drive up kerbs, the tread will wear out long before the rubber deteriorates.

Unless it's a very low mileage classic, of course
