Motor Trade Ombudsman

Featured Replies

Has anyone here any experience of dealing with the Motor Trade Ombudsman?

In my case following a Powershift fault & repair I approached Ford via their official complaints process requesting goodwill assistance for the cost of replacement parts (TCM) and repair at a Ford Dealership. As many are aware Ford have been subject to regulatory actions in Australia, Canada, USA and other markets.

After providing answers to questions ( but not to whether I had previously bought Ford cars new, how many, when, etc as irrelevant to the issue) and not providing responses to my questions they have closed the case.

Hence my query concerning the Motor Trade Ombudsman process. Also considering approaching the DVSA now as well.

Many thanks

Sorry, can't help re dealing with Motor Trade Ombudsman

Regrettably I don't think you will get any help whatsoever from Ford re a 2014 Focus. The Ford 1.6 and above had the "Wet Clutch" Powershift 6DCT450 trans which was not subject to any recall.

All the massive probs and court cases resulting in massive costs to Ford in the USA related to the "Dry Clutch" 6DCT250 Powershift fitted to smaller engine Fords, in this case the Auto Fiesta which, due to americans liking autos, resulted in mass sales in US markets etc, the auto versions being far less popular in Europe/UK

The 6DCT250 Dry Clutch was also used in Renault Citroen models - same problems

Thanks for the helpful reply.
As you correctly state there was no UK recall.

However Ford did extend the UK warranty, albeit not publicly as far as I am aware and I do not know if the DVSA were made aware and/or agreed with Ford.

The service department did confirm however that my VRN was associated with the extended warranty & inside the mileage part, unfortunately not the age limit 🙁

No, you won't get anywhere from Ford re a 2014 vehicle, nor any other manufacturer

What fault(s) did Ford extent the warranty on the Wet Clutch 6DCT450 trans?

I have been on this and other Ford Forum since 2011 when I purchased an almost new Mk4.5 Mondeo 2L Ecoboost Titanium X Sport and I can't recollect ever reading about Ford "Extended Warranty" on the 6DCT450

Thanks for your interest in the subject Trevor.

The information I received stated the following. I hope it makes sense.

— Ford UK did extend the warranty on the Transmission Control Module (TCM) for certain Ford Focus and Fiesta models under a Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP 14M02).

That certainly sounds to me it related to the horrendous probs that Ford had with the DRY clutch 6DCT250, this being fitted to models with the smaller engine, also fitted to the likes of similar Renault and Citroen

As far as I know both the Focus MK3  1.6 TI-VCT (petrol) Powershift and 1.6 TDCI (diesel) Powershift did have the dry clutch Getrag 6DCT250 transmission.

The 1.6 ECOboost was not avalilable with a Powershift transmission in the Focus MK3.

On a 2014 vehicle the (very generous) extended warranty period on the 6DCT250 transmission that was applicable in some countries has already expired. Most countries did not even have this extended warranty.

The extended warranty already being expired I do not think there is any chance to get a contribution of Ford.
