Ford starting issue

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 2015 Focus DCT. A few months ago, I had the TCM, actuators, and clutches replaced. Recently, I’ve encountered a new issue: after driving the car until it reaches operating temperature, if I turn it off for a few minutes, the initial turn of the key won't start the car. If I back off and try again, it usually starts. When it doesn’t, there are no sounds, and the lights dim slightly, but not like what I typically see with a bad battery or alternator.

I've checked the battery terminals, and they're clean. I replaced a bulb just before this started, and I did disconnect the battery cable briefly for that. It seemed like the instrument cluster panel module reset. Other than that, I'm not sure what the issue could be. The car starts fine after sitting for a while, and it shifts smoothly, so I doubt the TCM is the problem. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

On an initial thought and seeing work has been done in that area and seeing you say the lights dim I'd check all the earthing points and the engine earth strap for cleanliness and damage.

Next step would be to use Forscan to see what is going on when it doesn't start at once or if there are any pending codes?
Unless someone can go straight to the issue?
