Ford audio popping and crackling badly

Featured Replies

Hey, on my 2013 focus I have an issue with loud popping and crackling unrelated to how loud the audio is, so not the speakers.

I read that this could be the radio head and I plan to probably replace with a newer unit, however I’ve pulled the fuse to the unit and the issue continues. I’m just trying to avoid replacing the head unit only to find it’s a different issue. This started randomly although I read it can be a common issue. One other possibly related symptom I’ve had for a while is an unpredicatable ambient air temp reading on the dash, like it will show -10c on a summers day, just wondering if it’s a linked issue.
I welcome an ideas or experience resolving this issue, thanks!!

Assuming not DAB, have you moved fade and balance to test that all speakers have the same crackle and pop ?  And tried AM, FM and DAB if you have it ?

Assuming not DAB,..

Am unsure that a 2013 Focus would have had DAB?

DAB was standard on Mk3 Titanium and above from around 2011.  It was optional on Mk2.5s (2008-2011).

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey there.  I'm getting the same thing.  Started 2 weeks ago, as slight putting/crackling.  Now the sound is horrendous.  But there is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens, starts or stops.  The sound even starts when the car and radio are turned off.

The car is driving fine.  Any help is much appreciated
