LOG BOOK SCAM

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how this parking ticket-Log Book-V5 scam works. In other words how this driver is getting away with it over & over? She accrues multiple parking tickets for various infractions and just lets them build up and up. At the 11th hour she sells the car and buys another. The tickets remain unpaid and the next owner cannot be chased for the seller's tickets. She very likely has an early warning system in that the V5 has a different address or even a different name on it to where she lives and where the car is kept. Marstons, the bailiffs firm who pursue "ticket holders" in our area, are probably visiting the wrong address and there is of course no sign of the car.🚔🚔🚔

Parking or any other violations occurring at any time BEFORE the change of keeper was updated are NOT the responsibility of the new keeper. At all

Of course not. My point is that the present keeper will sell the car if she realises at the 11th hour that the car is soon to be seized. The next owner owes nothing and she goes off and buys another. How can this be allowed when the rest of us pay our tickets? At a guess, and I cannot see the car from our home, she owes at least £1,000 maybe more, I've seen the car with so many tickets and the traffic wardens admit to me they know she never pays.

Why don't they clamp it rather than just keep adding tickets?  Is it a private company that isn't really enforceable?

It's also very difficult to find cheap reliable cars nowadays, surely it's costing more to keep changing car than just pay the tickets?

I still feel there is a part 1 of this story missing.

  • "Does anyone know how this parking ticket-Log Book-V5 scam works" ---- What scam ?
  • "In other words how this driver is getting away with it over & over?"  ------ What driver where ?
  • "She accrues multiple parking tickets for various infractions and just lets them build up and up."  ----- Who is 'She' ?

This is like an AI rant on steroids.  🤣

OK maybe I phrased this badly. There is someone living near here, meaning our town, who is getting away with paying no parking tickets at all for 2-3 years. In my original post 7 hours ago, I hope it is visible to everyone, I was putting the "you don't have to pay for tickets" idea into the forum wondering if anyone knew if it was that easy. Easy meaning if one registered a car at another address then all the tickets, fines, CCJs go to that address. The authorities may not know where the car is parked normally so how can they seize it? And if the keeper-responsible -person cannot be traced either then the driver keeps ignoring tickets. Once they think the cosh is coming down, i.e. the car could be seized, they sell it on and buy another.

I posted this not because it is Ford specific but because is it really that easy to avoid tickets for the 2-3 years that the driver in my area has been doing this. White zig zags, double yellows, in a disabled bay all day long - it just goes on & on with impunity.

I made the post to sound out members as to whether this scam had been heard of before and is it really that easy to fool the authorities?

I've been driving for 50 years two wheels and four, I've never had to prove my identity when dealing with log books - V5's, seems like there is a weak link somewhere?

It sounds like they're careful to only pick up parking tickets rather than other road infractions?  Otherwise it'd be on ANPR and get picked by the police eventually while driving around.  What's the reg?

The neighbours must know where the car is parked overnight, so why don't any of them report it?  Seems like a very odd situation overall.

It is possible to avoid parking tickets, but I haven't heard of this particular 'scam' before.

Its easy enough to get a V5 registered to a random address when you buy a car. In fact it has been done twice by the dealer when I have bought cars!

Two summers ago, the first car, she was dumping it on the white zig zags almost daily. Not for a quick drop of but for hours. She got parking tickets but if only the Police ticketted her four times should could have been banned and the problem solved.

No idea if the cars were run by a company. They are both smart coupes good to sell I would think.

The rules on V5's seem to be so flexible, or non-existent, it is a a joke. Except that this one has taken to occupying a disabled bay all day as well which is not a joke.

I mean the parking run a private company.  If they're on a public road then they should be enforceable.

If it's in a private car park they generally aren't enforceable.

If there's no blue badge visible, put a clamp on it...

HA HA this is a multi-threaded scam! She seems to be using someone else's badge. I know the stock phrase is "Someone's disability is not always visible" but I'd be amazed if it is her badge. The warden has to note the time on their first patrol then return three hours later to issue the ticket. She gets them almost daily.

Not sure where you live but can your local parking team just clamp a vehicle just like that? Ours seem to be bound by all kinds of red tape.

Both locations are public, i.e. the highway or the council car park pay & display.

Hmm, that makes it a bit more complicated.  I have a blue badge myself and am well aware of the 'blue badge stare' from not looking as disabled as others would like me to.

I said put a clamp on it...ie do it yourself...can't rely on public services nowadays lol.  (But not if they are disabled/pregnant/carer etc.)
