Last connect question.

Featured Replies

Right I now understand a little more about the 1.5 connect engine (thanks tom) I WILL buy a van this week. My question now is there are some earlier 2014-2015 connects with a 1.6 diesel engine. I presume this is a dry belt and also doesnt have the additional cam chain? So would this make this engine the best of the bunch? Obviously cheaper than more recent models too. Im not too bothered about all the mod cons I just want to get the one with the best known reliability so I have the best chance. Thanks

Yes the pre-Ecoblue 1.5 Diesel is uber reliable too , if maintained

There's a 1.6 cdti with 88k just had cam belt done. Asking 5950 no vat

Yes, 1.6 TDCI at that age is 8 valve with dry belt and no additional camshaft or chain.

The common issue on that engine is the fuel injectors, so make sure it drives smoothly and doesn't smoke on the test drive.  These were generally reliable, although as they age we are starting to see occasional issues with EGR & DPF now.

Thanks again tom

I've owned 3 of them (all at the same time) and they were all very reliable, so much so one of them was stolen never to be seen again 🙁

It would be my engine of choice, especially if you can find one with 80K mileage. Remember the dry timing belt needs to be replaced every 10 years maximum.

Cheers mate, fingers crossed 🤞

Going to look at this one tomorrow seems reasonably priced with low mileage and been told cam belt just been done

'Incredibly high spec'...  No climate control.  No cruise control.  No auto lights.  No front parking sensors.  No sat nav.

It does mention that twice in the ad? And it's not been stolen and got 2 keys.😀

I know.  That's why I looked for it.  Ads are usually wrong nowadays, especially when they're full of boastful bullshit like that one.

The steering wheel picture shows there isn't a cruise panel on the left hand side unless I'm mistaken.

To be honest, I'd say it was about £900 over priced. If it had full satnav, climate control and cruise control I would have said it was a fair price. Lack of auto-lights is an inconvenience if it is something you have been used to. Personally I'd not offer more than £5200.

No, I couldn't get the pic clear enough, just seems to be in shadow. I wondered if you'd found a cunning way to zoom in on the VIN and get the build sheet for a mo!😀 You can see the a/c button, though.

Anyway, "inspection will reveal" as conveyancing firms tend to respond to queries before contract when they can't be *rsed to find out the answer!

Covering reg plates is very annoying.  Means we can't check build sheet or DSR, but also means we can't even confirm that it is the 1.6 rather than 1.5 or see any MOT history and check for mileage discrepancies.  Something else that would put me off this particular dealer, but luckily for them I'm in the minority.

Oh dear!!

The AT rating seems to be based on just one review - pretty bad one, though!

It looks an odd set up - appointment only, no dealer facilities to be seen, just looks like a rented office/accommodation address in a business centre. Doesn't seem to be registered as a company so no data available from Companies House.

There do appear to be/have been several "Invictus" motor traders in various parts of the country. One wonders if it's coincidence or, as is unfortunately often the case, dodgy traders winding up one business and starting elsewhere with a slight name change.

I'd treat with caution.

Yes I'd done the same research and come to the same conclusions.

Oddly there is what seems a genuine Invictus Automotive in the USA, could the proprietor be Harry ? 😉

No cam belt done he said but would knock the price down so I could get it replaced?
