Engine system fault/ steering assist failure

Hello all 

I have a 2005 FOCUS MK2. It runs and drive fine , but every so often I get the following messages(Engine system fault/ steering assist failure). And the car will not start, all the dash  lights come but when I turn the key nothing. If I disconnect the live battery terminal , everything returns to normal until the next time. Any ideas ?
